These lesser-known benefits of neem will convince you that you need more of it

0
Neem Tree

Neem has so many medicinal properties that can keep multiple ailments away from you. Here are some lesser-known benefits of neem.

In Sanskrit, neem is known as arishta which means something that is imperishable and complete. Neem trees are native to India and many of us have grown up in neighbourhoods that house them. It is known to cure a variety of diseases and has been used since ancient times to maintain one’s health.

It’s a one-of-a-kind wonder from nature because all its parts have some benefit for us. Not just its leaves, but the tree’s seeds, roots, flowers and bark also contain important compounds that make it a storehouse of medicinal benefits.

Neem contains over 130 different types of biological compounds which help the body to heal and promote healthy living. It is packed with vitamin E and fatty acids that enhance every part of the health. From giving you clear skin and lustrous hair, neem can also contribute towards preventing and curing chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, inflammation, urinary tract infection along with improving liver and heart health.

The plant is so powerful and has so many benefits that many of us don’t even have a full idea about how it can boost our overall health. Let’s take a look at these five lesser-known benefits of neem:

  1. It can prevent cancer

One of the most important benefits that neem has for you is that it can kill cancerous cells. If you consume neem every day, it will help keep the number of cancerous cells in the body within a certain limit.

The first polyphenolic flavonoids to be discovered from fresh neem leaves were quercetin and β-sitosterol. These compounds occupy an essential space in cancer prevention and management. This is due to their antitumor and antioxidant activity along with the inhibitory effect exerted on the development of malignant cells by modulation of cellular proliferation, tumour suppression, and apoptosis. Thus, recent studies have shown the effect of neem in inducing cell apoptosis in cancerous cells.

  1. It is good for your bones

It’s not just milk that is necessary for building strong bones. Neem leaves contain calcium and mineral content which help with building strong bones and reduce inflammation. Regular massage with neem oil helps relieve symptoms of arthritic pain. Neem oil works magically in relieving muscle aches and joint pains, helping ease discomfort associated with rheumatism, osteoarthritis and lower back pain.

  1. It can prevent viral infections

Neem works as an antiviral agent. It inhibits virus reproduction which helps minimize the impact of an infection. Over the past 50 years, researchers have shown that neem inhibits the growth of many viruses including polio, HIV, Coxsackie B virus, and dengue in the early stages of their replication.

Neem is reported to enhance both humoral and cell-mediated immune response during viral infection. Due to its antiviral potential, neem can be used as preventive medicine against viral infections. Neem boosts your body’s immune system, kicking your cell-mediated immune system into overdrive.

  1. It has antifungal properties

Neem oil is known to heal fungal infections like Athlete’s foot and ringworm infections. Neem contains two main medicinal compounds, nimbidol and gedunin, that are extremely effective in killing fungus. Neem oil contains the necessary fatty acids which also promote wound healing and make your skin healthy.

Neem can heal wounds and fungal infections without leaving any ugly scars. In fact, many people report using it to help fade scars. It also prevents septic infections. Neem is an excellent source of moisture for the skin. The fatty acids and vitamins found in neem oil moisturise and condition your skin, making it clear and youthful. Vitamin E in neem oil repairs the damaged skin and also limits the effect of environmental changes that can lead to skin damage.

  1. It improves digestion

Neem flowers can be used to treat anorexia, nausea, belching and intestinal worms. Ayurveda suggests neem leaves are good for digestion and metabolism along with improving enzyme secretion. Neem is a bitter herb whoich helps in increasing salivation and enzymatic secretion while stimulating taste buds. It helps in cleansing the oral cavity and improving taste sensation. What’s more, neem also improves the metabolic rate of the body. As a result, the work of burning calories and reducing fat is also rapid.

Consuming a mixture of neem flowers and honey on an empty stomach in the morning is considered very beneficial. Therefore, take it first thing in the morning.

No wonder that neem is regarded as ‘one tree pharmacy’! It has so many medicinal uses and forms an integral part of home remedies.

Feature: Nana Addo’s Headache Building a House for the Lord

0
Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana for now.
The first and only time that I saw his father was in Achimota School, when, as President of Ghana, His Excellency Edward Akufo-Addo, formerly a Chief Justice of Ghana, attended Achimota School Founders’ Day on March 2nd, 1971.

Subsequently, I used to meet Nana Addo in the courts as a senior practicing lawyer, and later in Members of Parliament (MPs) circles, and in Parliament 2001-2008.

He did not make public his aim that if elected President he would build a National Cathedral for the Lord, but after being sworn in, Nana Addo went all out in determination to build a National Cathedral.

One fundamental characteristic of Almighty God is that He is everywhere at the same time. You cannot box Him or compartmentalise Him in a fixed location, because He is everywhere, reader, everywhere.

The Psalmist says can I run away from the Lord? Even when I go to the vast recesses of the land, even there your hand will stretch forth to pick me. God is everywhere, reader.

BUT, even so, this Everywhere God gave Moses special instructions to build the ARK of the Lord, and a story is told of how when King David was bringing the ARK to Jerusalem, and the Ark SEEMINGLY slipped and was about to fall someone volunteered to stretch his hands to protect the ARK, and Almighty God struck him dead, INSTANTLY.

David became ANGRY and AFRAID at the same time, so he abandoned the idea and sent the ARK to rest in somebody’s house. Then David was told that the emergency caretaker of the ARK was being FABULOUSLY blessed by Almighty God, so David went for the ARK and brought it to Jerusalem.

King David wanted to build a House for the Lord to keep the ARK inside, but God told him no, there is too much blood on your hands. Rather, your son will build a House for me, and the story is told of how after King Solomon had built the Temple, on the opening day, the Holy Spirit took full control of the Temple, so even the High Priests could NOT enter the Temple.

Reader, it is NOT a joke to build a house for the Lord.
Nana Addo has to grapple with three terrible project-stopping obstacles – the first is the location.

There was a strong lobby that Accra is growing, daily. When I first came to Achimota School in 1967, Accra ended just at “Circle”. Korle Bu was outside Accra, and 37 was outside Accra. Today, as I write “Accra” stretches to Nsawam, Aburi, Dodowa, and faraway PRAMPRAM!!! Why not build the Cathedral somewhere OUTSIDE the inner city?

But, after a long wait, a FINAL decision was taken that the project should go ahead at Ridge area, not far from Parliament House, so about two acres of Government buildings housing Judges of the Superior Courts were demolished and the project started.

Then came the second tango: Nana Addo’s greatest competent and a Founding Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Reverend Dr. S. Asante Antwi, the principal driver of the National Cathedral project, suddenly died. I am sure Nana Addo must have wept very bitterly.

Very well! After a while, the Board was reconstituted and a new panel of top characters were put in charge of the project.

And you see, reader, according to history, the QUALITY of every leader; the GREATNESS of any leader, throughout history, from Julius Caesar through Genghis Khan to John F. Kennedy – your success rating depends on your STAFF OFFICERS, the backdoor or bedroom advisors. They are ALWAYS seemingly FACELESS – but they take the hard core decisions.

Ghanaians were shocked to hear that a highly placed trusted staffer on the National Cathedral Board was playing games with Cathedral money so much that two very respected members of the Cathedral Board have openly come out to say that “the project should be suspended.”

Wow!! That is very terrible.

What does Nana Addo do now? Meanwhile, the candle is burning, time is running out. If NPP succeeds Nana Addo in 2024, then the Cathedral dream will come to fruition, but if the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with Okudzeto Ablakwa and others yank us out of Jubilee House, then I am afraid, as my NDC friend Stanley keeps telling me, “we will convert the Cathedral project into a hostel!!

Personally, I support the Cathedral idea. I even wrote a long memo to Rev. Dr. Asante Antwi on how to raise funds to fund the project, but Nana Addo has to improve his terms by reflecting on the following recommendations:

i. First of all, if he wants the Cathedral dream to come to a reality, he must IMMEDIATELY reconstitute the Cathedral Board. I don’t think Pastors, Bishops, and Primates are the best builders. Bring on board results-oriented CONTRACTORS of your administration.

ii. Secondly, and more importantly, exploit ALL avenues and get Parliament to adopt the National Cathedral idea as on Act of Parliament so that in the most unlikely event if NDC should win (God forbid) they will not be able to abrogate the project.

iii. Finally, Nana Addo, I think in 1963, or so, Kwame Nkrumah wanted Accra to become the Headquarters of the OAU, so he BUILT Job 600, currently housing Parliament, from foundation to commissioning within SIX Months!!!

What that means is that if you are dead serious and you get a resurrected Rev. Dr. Asante Antwi to drive the project, then, 18 months from now – NPP will still be in power, we can commission the National Cathedral under your Presidency to chant the TE DEUM for His Glory.

IT CAN BE DONE!!!

Feature: Kamala Harris’ tour in Africa: What it means to international relations

0
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and U.S. Vice President Harris Kamala

U.S. Vice President Harris Kamala announced a tour in Africa. The countries involved are Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia. The week-long travel to the continent of Africa has thus far been deemed historic and generated different conversations in the media space across the world.

Here in Africa, the second most important personality in the United States of America visit means;
To Repair ties with Africa: U.S-Africa relations were marred under the administration of erstwhile President Donald Trump. Visiting African countries, it would be viewed as a step in the right direction that seeks to repair and strengthen the relationship between The United States of America and Africa. This could lead to increased collaboration on economic, political, and security issues, as well as improved diplomatic relations.

Addressing key issues: The 49th US Vice President is presumed to address key issues affecting African nations such as poverty, climate change, and human rights. By focusing on the said issues, Vice President Harris may unveil plans and commitment by the U.S. government to entwine with African nations in their quest to find recourse to the aforementioned challenges.

Countering China’s influence: China has been increasing its presence in Africa in recent years, particularly through economic and infrastructure investments. The U.S. Vice President Harris’ tour in Africa is seemingly a bait to open economic and infrastructure conversations with the aforesaid African countries. The trip is pragmatically considered an opportunity to counter China’s influence in Africa.

Showcasing diversity: Vice President Harris is the first Black and South Asian American Vice President, and her tour could showcase the diversity of the U.S. to African nations. This could help improve perceptions of the US in Africa and promote a more positive image of the country.

Brief Profile of Vice President Harris Kamala;

Kamala Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California, to parents who were immigrants from India and Jamaica. In 2017, Harris Kamala became the first Black American woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate, representing the state of California.

In 2020, Harris was chosen as the running mate of Joe Biden, the Democratic Party’s nominee for President of the United States. Biden and Harris won the election and were inaugurated on January 20, 2021.

Again, Harris Kamala made history as the first woman, first African American woman, and first Asian American woman to hold the position of Vice President in the United States.

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United manager

Manchester United to seek revenge against Brentford

Manchester United will look to bounce back from their defeat to Newcastle on Sunday and reassert themselves in the Champions League race when they host Brentford in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils suffered a 2-0 defeat at St James’ Park and they have dropped into fifth with Tottenham avoiding defeat at Everton.

The Bees have ambitions of European qualification themselves but were held to an enthralling 3-3 draw by Brighton at the AMEX Stadium in their most recent outing.

Midfielder Casemiro remains suspended for this game and the following clash with Everton, leaving Erik ten Hag with another decision to make in the centre of the park. With Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek also sidelined, the spots will go to two of Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer and Fred.

Anthony Martial made his return from injury as a substitute in the defeat to Newcastle but probably has a few more yards to put in before he makes the starting XI.

United haven’t scored a goal in any of their last three Premier League games – that lack of goal threat obviously must be solved if they are to beat Brenford.

The 4-0 defeat to Brentford earlier in the season acted as a firm wake-up call to Ten Hag and his players and this is an excellent opportunity to both drag themselves back onto the horse and exact revenge for that embarrassing defeat.

High-flying Newcastle set to continue quest for Champions League football

Fresh from dispatching top-four foes Manchester United in front of a passionate home crowd, Newcastle United will continue their quest for Champions League football when they face West Ham United at the London Stadium on Wednesday evening.

High-flying Newcastle

The Hammers also picked up a vital win last time out, defeating relegation rivals Southampton to move one point clear of the bottom three, but David Moyes‘s men still have plenty of work to do in order to avoid the drop.

West Ham have now avoided defeat in each of their last four outings across all competitions, picking up three wins and one draw along the way, and they head into Wednesday’s clash on a six-match unbeaten streak on home soil, with four clean sheets coming in that time.

After enduring a tricky five-game winless run across February and early March – recording two draws and three defeats in all competitions – Newcastle have rediscovered their early-season form in recent weeks.

Following 2-1 victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest, Newcastle secured a third successive Premier League win last time out, putting the club in a strong position to clinch a top-four finish.

Although West Ham have upped their game of late – avoiding defeat in each of their last five home league matches – high-flying Newcastle look set to notch a fourth consecutive victory as they continue their top-four charge on Wednesday.

Ahead of today’s Copa del Rey El Clasico

Xavi claims Real Madrid are favorites, while Ancelotti is giving nothing away

Barcelona and Real Madrid will do battle again at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night, this time in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.

Xavi and Ancelotti

Although Barcelona hold a 1-0 advantage in the tie, Xavi is still insisting that Los Blancos should be considered the favorites to reach the final.

“In a two-legged tie against Real Madrid, it’s always very difficult,” Xavi stated in his press conference on Tuesday.

“When was the last time they lost a two-legged tie?

“That’s why I still think they’re favorites despite the 1-0 scoreline.

“They’re currently Spanish and European champions.”

Xavi also discussed his team’s plan and shared some thoughts on how he thinks Real Madrid will approach the game.

“We’re going to go out to try to dominate the game, but we know that won’t be easy,” the Catalan stated.

“We have faced them a lot and we know them quite well.

“There can always be surprises, but what would surprise me is if they change their general approach.

“They know what they do and they do it well. I think we’ll see an aggressive Real Madrid.

“Remember, in the first leg they were the better team. They’re a very good team, but I think my team is well-prepared.”

Ancelotti gives nothing away:

Meanwhile, in Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti also previewed the match and spoke about the dynamic of this Clasico, with Real Madrid entering it one goal down.

“They have a goal advantage, but we can’t go crazy in search of the goal,” Ancelotti stated.

“You could score in the fifth minute, but then concede two. Or you could score in the 90th minute.

“Our approach will be to have a complete performance, not to score goals. If you have a complete performance, the goals will come.

Barcelona have won the past three Clasicos. It’s our turn.

“I still think we played well in the last two Clasicos matches, despite the result.”

The Italian was also asked about his approach and whether he’ll change his line-up. While he ruled out a complete overhaul, the kind Xavi also dismissed, Ancelotti didn’t give much more away.

“We won’t change the system, no,” he stated.

“You can surprise the opponent by changing an entire system, but you can surprise yourself too and that might be more dangerous.

“It’s more about tweaking small details.

“We may make changes to the line-up, or we might not.

“Having energy will be important, but so will the experience of the veterans.”

Gertrude Torkornoo, JSC and Yoni Kulendi, JSC

Information gathered by The Chronicle indicates that the next Chief Justice for the Judicial Arm of Government may be either Justice Yoni Kulendi or Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The Chronicle is making this prediction based on discussions it has picked up within the circles where the nomination is to come from.

Though this paper has gathered that these two names have popped up in several discussions about the choice of a new Chief Justice, it would not be surprised should a third name emerge.

The two justices, Gertrude Torkornoo and Emmanuel Yoni Kulendi were appointed to the apex court in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The search for a new Chief Justice has become necessary, given that Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah is due for retirement next month.

Family shun Asonaba Dapaah’s funeral in protest …against obnoxious behaviour of last wife and children

0
The late Benjamin Asonba Dapaah

The family of the late Benjamin Asonaba Dapaah, a former member of the Council of State during the erstwhile Kufour administration, has dissociated itself from a funeral announcement made to the public.

The position taken by the family comes at a time when it is in court with the deceased’s last wife.

Information available to The Chronicle suggests that the last wife, Madam Rosemary Dapaah and her four children are separately organising the final funeral rites of the former Council of State member, who died in London in 2019.

According to sources, the funeral is being organised through some powerful connections, without any consultation with the immediate family.

The entire Asona family, who are descendants of Ama Pokuaa of Atwea, Agona Akrofuso and Yaa Yeboah’s family of Atwea, Ashanti, who constitute the immediate family of the late Benjamin Asonaba Dapaah. They are, therefore, calling on all loved ones to disregard the said event.

A giant bill board in Kumasi , announcing the funeral of the late former council of state , Asonaba Dapaah to the public.

Notably, Madam Elizabeth Dapaah, the first widow and her eight children, out of the twelve children of the deceased, Obaapanin Akua Mfum, the only sibling of the late Asonaba’s mother, who is alive, have all washed their hands off the said funeral.

Above all, the entire Agona royal family at Nsuta-Anwonya in the Ashanti region, where the late Benjamin Asonaba Dapaah’s father was the Odikro have also disassociated themselves from the said funeral.

In an interaction with Mr. Matthew Akwasi Kumah, he told The Chronicle that the case is still pending at the Appeals Court in Kumasi and is yet to be brought to its logical conclusion.

Mr. Kumah is the representative of Mr. Yaw Opoku, the head of the family at Atwea and Obaapanin Akua Mfum, the only surviving sibling of the late mother of Asonaba Dapaah,

Akwasi Kumah, served notice to Nananom, the government, loved ones and the general public that the immediate family, the senior wife and the eight elder children have nothing to do with any funeral being organised for their beloved late son, father, uncle and grandfather.

According to Mathew Kumah, the last wife and her children failed to comply with their promise to return the body of the deceased to the rightful family members for planning a befitting burial.

They had made the promise, following a report to the Queenmother of the Nsuta Traditional area to intervene and to compel the last wife and her children to return the body.

The immediate family proceeded to court for the return of the body. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the court set up a committee of twelve members, which comprised four family members of the deceased.

Despite complaints filed by the family members on the conduct of the committee, the presiding high court judge, Justice George Krofa Addae, later ordered for the burial of the corpse by the committee, with specific orders on the date, venue for the laying-in-state, burial site and all arrangements to be guarded by the police.

The maternal and paternal family members, the elder and senior widow, Madam Elizabeth Dapaah and all eight elder children were not involved in the burial discussion.

The burial event, which took place in December 2020 under police guard, on the orders of the court was against the family and Ashanti customs and tradition, he stated.

According to documents made available to The Chronicle, the same court in a ruling on 28th July, 2022 ordered the acting family head to pay some costs to the youngest children, which include costs related to the one-week observation which was held at Atwea, Undertakers bill in London, transportation of the corpse to Ghana and mortuary fees.

The family head has contested that no monies were paid directly to him. The head of family has since appealed against the latest order, which is pending before the Appeal Court in Kumasi.

In an interview with one of the children, Mr. Emmanuel Kwabena Owusu Dapaah, who lives and works in London, he said he was shocked to be informed by some friends on the advertisement for the father’s final funeral rites.

According to Owusu Dapaah, his father’s unfortunate demise happened after he was taken ill while on his way from the US to visit him in London.

He stated that it is unfortunate that upon arrival at the Accra airport, his junior brothers and sister seized the corpse and this led to a long legal battle with the immediate family.

This, he added, resulted in an unfortunate dispute, serious misunderstanding with the family and among the children and surviving two widows, over the botched burial and final funeral rites.

He told this paper that it has been his expectation that the immediate family will meet to schedule and prepare a befitting funeral rite in conjunction with the two surviving wives of his father and all the twelve children. Unfortunately, this has not been the case with the current advertisement.

In a follow up interview with Nana Afia Adwubi Kete II, paternal aunt of Asonaba Dapaah and queenmother of Nsuta-Anwanya, where the late Asonaba Dapaah’s father was the Odikro, Eno Akua Mfum, Obaapanin and the only surviving sibling of Asonaba’s mother and some of the elder children, Kwadwo Nketia Dapaah, Grace Dapaah and Esther Dapaah, all confirmed the position of the immediate family.

The late Benjamin Asonaba Dapaah, who is a founding member of the NPP, passed away on 21st May, 2019 in London. He served as a member of the Council of State, representing the Ashanti region from 2001-2009.

NLA to be GH¢90m richer this year

0
Sammy Awuku addressing the media yesterday

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) will in the coming months rake in a whooping GH₡92M as revenue. The amount represent proceeds from negotiations it had with its partners, as well as royalties from Nigeria and Cote d’Iviore, countries who have drawn Ghana’s game online over the years.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NLA, Mr Samuel Awuku, made this known to journalists at a press conference organised by the Ministry of Information in Accra yesterday.

Mr Awuku attributed these huge gains to his pragmatic and proactive leadership after taking over the responsibilities of manning the activities of the NLA in just 18 months.

Addressing the media, the CEO said that GH₡55m of that money was from a renegotiated deal with KGL Technology Limited.

According to Mr Awuku, KGL, an organisation that operates the NLA’s 5/90 online game, was paying the NLA GH₡25m but his leadership ensured that the deal was adjusted upward to enable the NLA benefit more.

With regards to raking in royalties from countries who have been drawing Ghana’s game online, Mr Awuku indicated that Nigeria for instance has been drawing Ghana’s game online for the past 25 years without paying any royalties to the country.

He said that together with some board members and directors of the NLA, they paid a working visit to Nigeria where they negotiated with the later and made them see the need to pay some form of compensation to the country.

Mr Awuku indicated that the Nigerian Lottery Authority was able to see reason with the Ghanaian authorities and agreed to pay an amount of GH₡18M.

Mr Awuku continued that same negotiations were held with their counterparts in Cote d’Ivoire and were able to agree on GH₡13m.

“…My initial trips to Ivory Coast and Nigeria would now pay off, as both countries will soon pay us royalties…for drawing our games online through the KGL Group”.

Mr Awuku said the Authority is having talks and negotiations with Burkina Faso and Niger to also draw the Authorities’ game online so that they can get some revenue from these countries as well.

Aside using his pragmatic leadership to rake in huge revenues for the NLA, Mr Awuku also noted that his outfit is making efforts to get the Authority some global recognition.

He said the biggest of this global recognition is that the NLA is now a member of the Africa Lottery Authority after it was kicked out of the association for a couple of years for non-payment of dues and not conforming to some regulations.

Mr Awuku said the Authority is working on getting certification from the World Lottery Authority in order to make the NLA more attractive to other countries.

He noted that the benefits of getting the world recognition is not only about making money but that there will be high level trust in the activities of the NLA among others.

Meanwhile, the CEO observed that activities of illegal lottery operators were undermining the works and gains that the Authority has done. He said most of the people who engage in these activities use the 35% payment of commission to bait people to transact business with them.

Mr Awuku noted that the commission that the NLA pays is the highest around the globe and hence encouraged people to transact business with the NLA instead of illegal lottery operators.

He, however, indicated that going forward, the Authority would employ the services of state security operatives to deal with illegal lotto operators.

Appollonia Chief warns public against purchase of land from unauthorised persons

0
Chief of Appollonia, Nii Nuertey Amobi II

Private developers are being advised to be wary in purchasing land from unauthorised persons at Appollonia in the Greater Accra Region.

The public is being warned by the Chief of Appollonia, Nii Nuertey Amobi II, due to several complaints his office had received over the period.

Although, he shares sympathy with persons who had suffered this fate, and urged the public to be cautious by making sure that they do all the necessary diligence or contact the Stool before purchasing any land in the traditional area.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Appollonia Stool Lands Legal Advisor, Emmanuel Effah Annan Esq.

According to the statement, persons who had acquired land within the traditional area without the notifying the Stool had done so at their own risk.

The statement said the Stool had taken notice of persons with malicious and questionable character undermining the Chief’s authority with impunity, whereas innocent members of the public were the ones at the receiving end.

The statement further indicated that Nii Nuertey Amobi II had not turned a blind eye to these alleged criminal acts, and, as such, had instituted several legal actions against these people to bring sanity to Appollonia.

It further urged the members of the public to refrain from dealing with these unscrupulous people who, at the end of the day, would not serve their interests.

The statement also attached copies of documents indicating when Nii Nuertey Amobi II was enstooled, January 20, 2014, gazetted on July 22, 2019, and registered by the Greater Accra and National House of Chiefs.

Obuasi Area Pentecost Church builds Male Ward for Tweapease Health Center

The vision of the Obuasi Area Church of Pentecost to transform and improve the lives of the people in its communities has spurred the Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) of the Church to build and handed over a 15-bed capacity Male Ward for the Tweapaease Health Center.

The Tweapaease Health Center, the only medical facility serving about ten neighbouring communities, has not seen any major facelift since it was commissioned in 2015.

The facility, until the intervention by the Church of Pentecost, had males and females sharing the same ward.

The Tweapaease branch of the Church of Pentecost decided to save the situation through the Obuasi Area Men’s Ministry.

Nana Ekuoba Gyasi (left), Apostle William Boakye Agyarko, Obuasi Area Head help Oheneba Kwadwo Ntoso III, Bekwai Dwonsuahene to commission the ward

The new Male Ward, which cost GH¢166,531, consists of a 10-bed main ward, 4-bed side ward, and a VIP Ward.

Apostle William Boakye Agyarko, Obuasi Area Head of the Church, explained at the handing over ceremony that the initiative was in line with the teachings of the Holy Bible, which enjoined Christians to do good to all manner of people.

He revealed that the Church saw it important to intervene to salvage the situation of men and women sharing the same ward during routine evangelism by the District Pastor, Francis Wugban, at the health facility.

Apostle Agyarko reiterated the commitment of the Church, through their transformational agenda, to change the lives of the people.

He stated that, the Church of Pentecost, true to its resolve to inculcate unto the people the need to observe a clean environment, had set aside the 3rd month of the year (March) to clean the environment.

Ampratwum Oppong Ahmed , Amansie Central District Health Director, lauded the Church for coming to the aid of the health center, and described the facility as a welcome relief, saying the existing phenomenon of having men and women sharing a single ward was an albatross around the neck of personnel at the facility.

The newly Males Ward commissioned at Tweapease Health Center

Mr. Ampratwum cited the refusal of health personnel to accept postings to the district as a major threat to healthcare delivery in the area.
