Gospel musician Yaw Sarpong responds to ex-wife’s damning allegations

Yaw Sarpong

Gospel musician, Yaw Sarpong has responded to recent allegations by his ex-wife, Adwoa Pinamang.

He stated unequivocally that, their marriage had collapsed 20 years ago when Pinamang abandoned him and their children.

The distraught wife in a radio interview claimed that the family of the musician has denied her access to care for her ailing husband.

She also accused Tiwaa, a female vocalist of snatching Yaw Sarpong with the help of his family.

Despite being separated for nearly 20 years, Pinamang is confident they are still married and not officially divorced, hence deserves to be treated as a legitimate wife.

In his response, Yaw Sarpong clarified that their marriage was not legally formalised, therefore, did not require a legal divorce.

He explained that, he did the traditional rites where he was made to present a Bible, soft drinks and a ring.

The veteran musician recounted how Adwoa Pinamang abandoned him and their children and relocated to Kumasi when he was seriously ill.

Yaw Sarpong also mentioned that, he has had no communication with Adwoa Pinamang over the past two decades, which makes her recent claims and efforts to reconnect surprising.

He is convinced her renewed interest might be influenced by the recent GH¢100,000 gift he received from Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia.

He emphasised that he has moved on but will resolve all outstanding issues with his ex-wife amicably.

Princess Anne hospitalized with minor injuries following incident at her home

Princess Anne, the sister of King Charles III, has been hospitalized as a precaution after she sustained minor injuries and a concussion in an “incident” at her home, Buckingham Palace has said in a statement.

A royal source told CNN that Anne, 73, was walking near horses in her Gatcombe Park estate, in Gloucestershire, western England, when she suffered minor injuries to her head.

While the exact cause of these injuries is unconfirmed, Princess Anne’s medical team say that her head injuries are consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

Emergency services were sent to the estate and, after medical care at the scene, she was transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for appropriate tests, treatment and observation.

“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening,” the statement said Monday.

“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

Buckingham Palace added that the King “has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

Anne is a keen horse rider, and competed in Equestrian events at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

Anne is King Charles’ younger sister, and the second of Queen Elizabeth II’s four children. She is followed by Princes Andrew and Edward.

Human waste and old clothes in North Korea trash balloons

North Korea trash balloon

Parasites from human waste and defaced Hello Kitty clothing have been found in bags of rubbish carried by North Korean balloons into South Korea, officials say.

More than 1,500 waste-carrying balloons have been released by Pyongyang across the border since May, in retaliation for a leaflet campaign sent northwards by opponents of North Korean leader, Kim Kong Un.

Analysis of some of the balloon packages detected “roundworms, whipworms and threadworms” in the soil.

The chance of infection from the parasites in the packages is low, South Korea’s ministry of unification assured people.

Other items carried by the balloons included slashed “western” clothes that had been donated from the South – including items featuring Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and Hello Kitty characters, according to Reuters news agency. There were also socks, clothes and heavily patched-up children’s clothes.

The waste sent by North Korea also revealed the country’s woeful economic state, and highlighted “the adversarial stance against South Korea”, a ministry official said.

The soil was probably infected with the parasites because human faeces was used instead of chemical fertilisers in the North, the ministry added.

North Korea says the balloons are retaliation for a propaganda campaign by North Korean defectors and South Korean activists who regularly send balloons the other way, carrying food, medicine, cash and leaflets criticising the North’s regime.

The two Koreas have recently stepped up their cross-border tit-for-tat propaganda war. As the north sent trash floating southward, the south has also been blasting pop songs and news items over the border from powerful loudspeakers.

Israel-Hamas war will continue even if ceasefire deal agreed -Netanyahu

Israel PM, Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that he is open to a “partial” deal that would facilitate the return of some captives still held in Gaza, even if not all.

He reiterated, however, that he would not agree to any deal that stipulated an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, despite previous claims by the United States that an Israeli proposal would be a pathway to ending the offensive.

“The goal is to return the kidnapped and uproot the Hamas regime in Gaza,” he said in an interview with Israeli media outlet Channel 14 on Sunday.

Tens of thousands of Israelis have consistently rallied against Netanyahu and his government, demanding early elections and a deal to return the captives.

Last month, US President Joe Biden announced a proposal for a ceasefire, which would see a six-week pause in fighting as well as the release of some Israeli captives in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. These exchanges would then enable negotiations for a permanent ceasefire.

While US officials have insisted that Israel authored the proposal, various Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, have pledged to continue fighting until Hamas is eliminated, and have refused to publicly endorse it fully.

Netanyahu also told Channel 14 that Israel’s “intense” military offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah was nearly over.

“The intense phase of the fighting against Hamas is about to end,” he said. “It doesn’t mean that the war is about to end, but the war in its intense phase is about to end in Rafah.”

Russia blames US for Crimea deaths and vows response

People lay flowers as tribute to the victims of Sunday's attack

Russia has blamed the US and vowed “consequences” for a Ukrainian missile strike on Sevastopol in occupied Crimea on Sunday, which officials say killed four people – including two children.

Around 150 more were injured in the attack as missile debris fell on a beach nearby.

Russia’s defence ministry said the missiles used by Ukraine were US-supplied ATACMS missiles, and claimed they were programmed by US specialists.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the strike “barbaric” and accused the US of “killing Russian children”.

He pointed towards comments by President Vladimir Putin, who recently vowed to target countries supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Moscow said Sunday’s deaths and injuries were caused by falling debris, after its air defences in Crimea intercepted five missiles loaded with cluster warheads launched by Ukrainian forces.

Footage carried on Russian state TV showed chaos on the beach in the Uchkuyevka area, as people ran from the falling debris and some injured people were carried away on sun loungers.

Russia’s defence ministry claimed on Sunday that all ATACMS missiles are programmed by US specialists and guided by American satellites.

The US has been supplying ATACMS missiles to Ukraine for over a year. The system allows Ukrainian forces to strike targets up to 300km (186 miles) away, according to manufacturer Lockheed Martin.

Moscow illegally annexed Crimea in 2014 and just a handful of countries recognise the peninsula as Russian territory. It therefore does not fall under the US demands that Ukraine refrain from using Washington-supplied weapons to strike Russian territory.

The Russian foreign ministry summoned the US Ambassador Lynne Tracy on Monday, before issuing a statement accusing the US of involvement in an “atrocity” and vowing it would “not go unpunished”.

Moscow has repeatedly threatened to target countries supplying weapons to Ukraine, claiming that they are legitimate military targets.

Your body needs protein to stay healthy

0

Your body needs protein to stay healthy and work the way it should. More than 10,000 types are found in everything from your organs to your muscles and tissues to your bones, skin, and hair.

Protein is also a critical part of the processes that fuel your energy and carry oxygen throughout your body in your blood. It also helps make antibodies that fight off infections and illnesses and helps keep cells healthy and create new ones.

How Much Protein Do You Need?

Not getting enough protein in your diet can lead to health issues. For example, tissue can break down and lead to muscle loss.

But more isn’t necessarily better. While it can help build muscle, if you take in too much your body may store the excess as fat.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, put together by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, recommend the following daily amounts of protein for different age groups:

  • Children under 4: 13 grams
  • Children ages 4 to 8: 19 grams
  • Children ages 9 to 13: 34 grams
  • Women and girls ages 14 and over: 46 grams
  • Boys ages 14 to 18: 52 grams
  • Men ages 19 and over: 56 grams

Simply put, most everyone should get 10% to 35% of their calories each day in the form of protein. You need more calories for activities like biking, lifting weights, or running, but the percentage of protein remains in the same range.

After age 40, you can start to lose muscle mass, a condition known as sarcopenia, and you may need more protein.

If you’re overweight, you’ll need to lower your calorie intake. A dietitian can help you figure out how much protein you should have.

What Are the Best Sources of Protein?

Why Am I Dizzy? High-quality sources of protein include:

  • Fish
  • Poultry
  • Lean beef or pork (in limited amounts)
  • Tofu
  • Eggs
  • Dairy products

But you can get all the protein you need from plant-based sources. These include:

  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Legumes, like beans, peas, or lentils
  • Grains, like wheat, rice, or corn

You can combine large amounts of these with smaller portions of animal-based sources, like dairy products or eggs to make sure you’re getting enough amino acids.

Limit the amount of protein you get from processed meats — like bacon, sausage, or cold cuts.

How Do High-Protein Diets Affect You?

Some weight-loss programs, like the Atkins Diet and the Ketogenic Diet, call for high amounts of protein and fat while limiting carbs. But research shows that they seem to primarily work well only in the short-term. One reason may be that people aren’t able to stick with this type of eating plan over a long period of time.

Be mindful of what diets you try. Focusing just on protein and fat can keep you from getting all the nutrients you need, and that can lead to unhealthy side effects. That can lead to fatigue, dizziness, headaches, bad breath and constipation.

Agyemang-Badu concerned over AFCON 2025 timing for players

0
Badu

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has expressed concerns over the scheduling of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, highlighting the challenges it poses for African players.

The tournament’s new dates, set between December 2025 and January 2026, were announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following an Executive Council meeting last Friday.

This timing forces top African players based in Europe to navigate between club commitments and missing the festive season with their families.

“It’s a very difficult situation but this is our job. This is the kind of job we want to do,” Agyemang-Badu shared with Joy Sports.

“You need to be there and represent your country, you need to make yourself proud, your country proud so whenever you get the call-up whether it’s Christmas time, whether the European club will worry us, you just need to come and do the job for your country.”

Originally slated for June/July 2025, the AFCON rescheduling was necessitated by Morocco hosting the expanded Club World Cup during that period.

The proposed alternative of early 2026 was also untenable due to conflicts with the FIFA World Cup calendar.

Badu also called on CAF to prevent future scheduling conflicts, stating, “It’s just unfortunate but we need to abide with it and just go with it. I hope it will not repeat itself because it will bring a lot of chaos for the players.”

Ivory Coast are the reigning champions of Africa after winning the delayed 2023 tournament on home soil in February 2024.

Nsoatre

Nsoatreman SC are set to take over the CAF Confederation Cup baton from Dreams FC following their historic MTN FA Cup victory against Bofoakwa Tano on Sunday.

The triumph not only marks Nsoatreman’s first major trophy but also earns them the honour of representing Ghana in the prestigious continental competition.

Led by experienced coach Maxwell Konadu, Nsoatreman SC demonstrated remarkable resilience, fighting from behind to secure their place in African football.

Bofoakwa Tano took an early lead in the 22nd minute through a well-placed goal by Richard Dzikoev in Sunday’s final at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

The Sunyani-based team appeared poised to lift the trophy as they maintained their lead deep into the second half.

However, with just 11 minutes left, Sadat Mohammed of Nsoatreman SC struck a crucial equaliser, ensuring the game would head into extra time.

Despite both teams creating numerous opportunities, neither could find the back of the net during the additional 30 minutes, leading to a tense penalty shootout.

Nsoatreman SC held their nerve and emerged victorious with a 5-4 scoreline, sparking jubilant celebrations among their players and supporters.

The victory not only brings glory to Nsoatreman SC but also presents them with the opportunity to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.

They will be taking over from Dreams FC, who had a memorable campaign in the previous season, reaching the semi-finals before being stopped by Zamalek.

Dreams FC’s remarkable run made them the first Ghanaian side in 20 years to reach this stage of the competition.

As Nsoatreman SC prepare for their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup, they face the daunting challenge of matching or surpassing the achievements of Dreams FC.

The eyes of Ghanaian football fans will be on Nsoatreman as they embark on this new and exciting journey in African football.

Netherlands meet Austria in final fixture

0
Netherlands vs Austria

Requiring just one point to ensure a place in the knockout phase of Euro 2024, the Netherlands meet Austria for their final Group D fixture on Tuesday.

The teams convene in Berlin, with the Oranje having four points on the board following their stalemate with France; Ralf Rangnick‘s men swept past Poland last time out but must now avoid defeat to have a good chance of reaching the last 16.

Having previously beaten Poland 2-1 in their opener, the Oranje will secure a place in Group D’s top two should they avoid losing to Austria; guaranteeing first place if they win and France fail to deliver against Poland.

Meanwhile, if Koeman’s men draw and France win they will still finish second – even in defeat, four points would likely prove enough to progress as a third-placed finisher.

Since the 2014 World Cup, the Netherlands are unbeaten in group matches at major tournaments, winning nine of 11 and scoring in each game except Friday’s goalless encounter with Les Bleus.

During that streak, Austria were beaten 2-0 at Euro 2020, when Depay and Dumfries were both on target at the Johan Cruijff Arena. A repeat would now take a highly-rated Dutch squad through to the next phase with room to spare.

Including defeat in Amsterdam three summers ago, Austria have lost their last seven matches against the Netherlands – their longest ongoing sequence against a single opponent.
