NPP Parliamentary Primaries: Interested regional, constituency executives have until September 20 to resign

Regional and constituency executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who intend contesting in the parliamentary primaries are to resign not later than September 20, 2023.

A statement the party issued on Monday, July 20, 2023, indicated that the decision affects the regional and constituency executives who wish to contest with the 137 NPP parliamentarians.

“Regional and constituency party executives who wish to contest in the primaries with sitting Members of Parliament shall resign from their respective positions not later than September 20, 2023. All such executives shall tender their resignation letters to their respective regional party secretariats not later than September 20, 2023.”

The above is part of three decisions the Council reached at its last meeting held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, a meeting that considered the guidelines for the conduct of the internal primaries for constituencies in the hands of the party.

The other decision was that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs are not eligible to contest in the parliamentary primaries.

At its Thursday meeting, the National Council also approved the recommendations of the Vetting Committee, clearing all ten aspiring presidential candidates to contest in the primaries.
