Twelve signatories on behalf of a group calling itself Concerned NPP Polling Station executives from the Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region have petitioned the National Steering Committee (NSC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rethink the annulment of the Adansi Asokwa constituency executives’ election held on July 11, 2026.
On July 15, 2026, the National Steering Committee announced the annulment of Adansi Asokwa Constituency executive election alleging that the election was conducted in a flagrant disregard of party directives, rules and regulations.
But the polling station executives have disagreed with the decision of the National Steering Committee in annulling the elections saying the Committee did not provide reasons for the purported annulment of the Adansi Asokwa constituency executive election.
At a news conference held on Thursday, Mr. Frederick Agyekum Boatey, Spokesperson for the group, said the decision was not founded upon clear facts, credible evidence and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and election guidelines.
The group said the NSC did not provide particulars regarding Adansi Asokwa neither did it identify the specific directives and provisions that were breached, findings and/or any court order affecting Adansi Asokwa.
The petitioners noted that the party is known for constitutional governance, the rule of law, due process and democratic accountability and must be seen to be guided by those principles. They said the authority of rules lies not merely in their existence, but in their consistent applications.
The aggrieved polling station executives have, therefore, rejected the validity of the annulment unless and until the NSC demonstrates that its decision was reached in strict compliance with Party Constitution, the 2026 Election Guidelines and the principles of procedural fairness.
According to Spokesperson Agyekum Boatey, the Election Guidelines governing the 2026 NPP Internal Elections were formulated, approved and issued by the Party (NPP) and that every Party member is required to strictly comply with these guidelines emphasising that every organ of the party including the NSC must equally be guided by the rules.
They have called for transparency, accountability and adherence to the provisions of the party’s Constitution as well as the 2026 Guidelines for the Constituency Executive Elections.
“Unless the issues raised are addressed, we respectfully maintain that the purported annulment lacks the procedural transparency and fairness that the party’s Elections Guidelines were designed to guarantee”, it was stated.
The group emphasised that the issue confronting them is not merely the annulment of an election, but the integrity of the NPP’s internal democratic processes.
“Our position as loyal members of the party, is not one of defiance. It is one of fidelity to the party’s Constitution, Elections Guidelines and democratic values upon which NPP was built”, the group stated and emphasised that the call for a review is not only about Adansi Asokwa constituency, but safeguarding the integrity of the party’s internal democracy and preserving members confidence in the party’s internal institutions.
