NDC Execs reverse suspension of PC for Assin Central

The Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has quashed a purported withdrawal and suspension of the party’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Assin Central, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah.

In a press statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, he explained that the decision was taken after a meeting with a delegation from the Central Regional Executive body of the party.

The quashing of the order follows a decision by the Central Regional Executives, led by the Regional Chairman to suspend the Assin Central PC, over allegation of amorous relationship.

However, the Functional Executive Committee says after hearing the reasons for their purported withdrawal of the party’s PC for Assin Central and after carefully examining the facts and circumstances surrounding the matter, FEC established that the purported withdrawal of the PC was unlawful, hence null and void.

Additionally, it was established that the body that took the unlawful decision had no locus, power and authority to do so, per the constitution of the party.

More importantly, the reasons underpinning the purported withdrawal of the PC were found to be totally false and without any reasonable basis.

Consequently, the said letter, purporting to withdraw the candidacy of the PC for the NDC is a nullity and should be treated with utmost contempt.

“Shaibu Nuredin Migyimah remains the NDC PC for Assin Central for the upcoming election”, General Secretary Fifi Kwetey wrote in the statement.

Apart from quashing the purported withdrawal, FEC in the statement has also suspended the Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu for a period of one month for what the statement described as anti- party conduct pursuant to Article 48 of the party’s constitution.

His suspension, the statement explained, was on the account of his blatant refusal to adhere to the constitution of the party and the express instructions of the leadership of the party.

“His situation was particularly aggravated due to the fact that he has committed similar infractions in the past and has been advised repeatedly against such behavior”.

That apart, FEC has also suspended the Assin Central Secretary of the party pursuant to Article 48 of the NDC constitution and referred him to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party.

These actions, the statement further explained, were without prejudice to the rights of comrade Shaibu Migyimah to pursue legal action against persons behind the lies to tarnish his hard won reputation.

In a related development, the western Regional Chairman of the NDC, Nana Kojo Toku has charged the executives of the party especially constituency Youth Organisers to work hard to return the party to power.

Returning the party to power in 2025, according to him, should surely happen and that, party youth organisers have a pivotal role to play in this exercise.

Nana Toku made this known when he distributed motor cycles to constituency Chairmen for onward distribution to Youth Organisers in the region. Some of the constituencies received three motorcycles and others two depending on the terrain of the constituency.

For instance, Nana Toku explained that Prestea Hunni-Valley constituency received three Motorcycles as compared to Takoradi Constituency, which received two because of the terrain in the former constituency.

Regional Chairman Toku told the recipients however that the Motorcycles were not their personal properties and that they should   use them for the intended purpose.

“You are to use the Motor to work for the party and in the interest of the party to ensure resounding victory in the 2024 elections. This is the core objective for which you are receiving the Motorbikes”.

The Bicycles, he said, were from the office of the Flagbearer and donations from other individuals as a means to resource the party ahead of the 2024general elections.

Currently, 78 Motorcycles have been distributed to the party’s Organisers and Youth Organisers among others.
