The Chief of Kwahu Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, Nana Boamah Ayiripe III, has charged residents and, especially, parents to invest in the education of their wards and minimise spending on material things like funeral clothes.

According to him, most parents did not appreciate the essence of educating their wards, and therefore, preferred investing more on themselves than the education of the child.

He made the remark at a short, but impressive, handing over of a renovated six-unit classroom block with office at the Nana Ayiripe Memorial Basic School on Tuesday.

The well-respected Chief renovated the Kwahu Nkwatia District Assembly Primary School, which had become a death trap for the teachers and pupils.

The Kwahu Nkwatiahene indicated that, he and his elders decided to give a facelift to the school following its deplorable state, with its corresponding negative effects on teaching and learning.

He said the time had come for parents and well-meaning residents of the area to invest in their children’s education, since that was the only way they could develop economically and socially.

To this end, Nana Boamah Ayiripe III charged residents in the community to reconsider the attitude of buying expensive shoes and clothes among other things at the expense of their children’s education.

“It is time for parents to support their kids’ education due to its importance to the young generation,” he added.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Seth Kofi Addo, expressed his profound gratitude to the Chief and his elders for coming to their aid at that short notice.

He was, however, quick to appeal to the general public and benevolent organisations to come and help them put up their Information and Communications Technology (ICT) lab to solve computer-related issues facing the school.

The pupils could not hide their elation, as they joined their teachers to express their appreciation and gratitude to Nana Boamah Ayiripe III for his proactive approach toward the development of education in the area.
