The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, before a weekend court following his voluntary surrender to the Office.
EOCO said the move was to comply with the constitutional and procedural requirements governing the detention and bail of suspects.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah voluntarily surrendered to EOCO at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, to assist with an ongoing investigation.
In an update on the investigative proceedings, EOCO said the MP was cooperating with investigators as the Office continued with the necessary investigative, procedural and operational processes.
“Mindful of the applicable constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail, the Office is fervently working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the Suspect before a weekend court,” the statement said.
The move is expected to provide the court with an opportunity to deal with the MP’s status, including any application relating to bail, as the investigation continues.
GH¢50M BAIL REPORT
EOCO has meanwhile denied media reports that it had granted the MP bail of GH¢50 million.
The Office urged the public to disregard the reports, stressing that it had not granted such bail.
The denial comes ahead of the anticipated weekend court proceedings, where any bail-related application would be subject to the court process.
EOCO did not disclose the specific allegations being investigated in its latest update, but said the investigative processes and procedures were ongoing.
The MP’s voluntary surrender followed earlier attempts by EOCO to engage him as part of its investigations.
The Office said it would continue working with the Attorney-General’s Office as the matter progresses.
