Market Queens at the various markets in Kumasi have pledged their unflinching support for Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, to succeed in his line of duty.

The Queen Mothers pledged their support at an engagement with the Minister at the Regional Coordinating Council, to deliberate on pressing issues that affect the traders in the city.

Madam Yaa Foriwaah, Head of Yam sellers, on behalf of her colleague Market Queens cautioned the Minister to be very vigilant and firm against the rot at the various markets by the various trade associations.

She entreated the Minister not to allow anybody to overshadow him in performing his responsibilities.

Madam Foriwaah pleaded with the Minister that the bulk electricity bills are unbearable and called for provision of metres by the Electricity Company of Ghana for individual consumers.

They pleaded with the Minister to ensure that Phase two of the Central Market and Krofrom Market are completed, whilst the road leading to Racecourse is tarred to decongest the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi.

She expressed worry over the mismanagement of the New Kejetia Market and called for an overhaul of the management to ensure effective management of the markets.

The Market Queens also assured that they would get involved in decision making to contribute their quota to champion the welfare of the traders.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to the Market Queens for expressing their readiness to support in the development of the region and seek the welfare of the traders in Kumasi.

He noted that he is not above criticism and would, therefore, expect constructive criticism regarding his performance to move the region forward.

He promised to meet with the Contractors working on the Krofrom Market to see about its completion for the occupation of traders.

The Minister entreated them to always call on him when necessary to ensure effective collaboration for the total development of the Ashanti region.
