Constituents and motorists in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region are raising urgent concerns over the worsening condition of the Apenkwa Bridge, warning that the deteriorating structure poses a serious threat to lives and property.

The bridge, which serves as a vital link for commuters, commercial drivers, and pedestrians, has reportedly fallen into a state of disrepair, sparking fears of a potential disaster if immediate action is not taken.

Road users who traverse the route daily describe the bridge as a growing safety hazard, citing visible signs of deterioration that have left many worried about its structural integrity.

According to residents, the situation becomes even more alarming during periods of heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions, when the risk of accidents is significantly heightened.

Community members say the bridge plays a critical role in facilitating movement within the municipality and that any failure of the structure could disrupt transportation, economic activities, and access to essential services.

Several motorists expressed frustration over what they described as prolonged neglect of the bridge, stressing that authorities must not wait for a tragedy to occur before intervening.

They are calling for an immediate technical assessment to determine the extent of the damage and to implement the necessary rehabilitation works.

Pedestrians who use the bridge have also voiced concerns about their safety, noting that the current condition of the structure leaves them vulnerable to accidents.

Parents, traders, and schoolchildren who rely on the route daily are particularly worried about the dangers posed by the deteriorating bridge.

Residents are, therefore, appealing to the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly, the Department of Urban Roads, and other relevant government agencies to treat the matter as an urgent priority.

They argue that proactive maintenance and rehabilitation measures are essential to prevent a possible catastrophe and ensure the safety of all road users.

As concerns continue to grow, stakeholders are urging swift intervention to restore confidence in the infrastructure and protect the lives of the thousands of commuters who depend on the Apenkwa Bridge every day.
