Gold Fields sponsors awards for best farmers in catchment areas

Gold Fields Ghana Foundation (GFGF) supported the celebration of the 39th National Farmers Day in two municipalities – Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley – which are its catchment areas.

This year’s celebration was held at Tarkwa and under the theme: “Delivering Smart Solution for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience”.
The Foundation sponsored the award for the Municipal Best Farmer in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

Additionally, the Foundation also sponsored the prizes for the Prestea Hunni Valley best farmer and best farmer in vegetable cultivation.

The prizes were tricycles, refrigerator (2) television set (3), pumping machines, wax prints (3) and Orthopaedic mattress.

Exhibition of YouHoP produce

The rest were; Mist blower (2), Knapsack sprayer (9), 15 bags of fertilizer, Wellington boots (11), 31 pieces of cutlasses and pick axe amongst others, at a total cost of GH178,365.00
At the awards ceremony, Youth in Organic Horticulture Production Project (YouHoP) and Community Oil Palm Project (COPP)  were present to exhibit some of their products. These included; cabbage, green pepper, carrot, spring onion, lettuce, cucumber, mushroom and oil palm.

Fredrick Baidoo, a YouHoP farmer from Mile 10, was awarded the Municipal Best Vegetable Farmer in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality.

Lawrence Laweh, a farmer from Bompieso community, won the municipal overall best farmer.
