President John Dramani Mahama has acknowledged that Ghana is confronting serious and evolving security challenges, following two major incidents along its northern frontier and at sea.

Addressing Parliament, the President disclosed that within the past two weeks, the country has recorded two significant security breaches — a terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso, which claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, and a separate assault on Ghanaian fishermen on the high seas.

He expressed appreciation to the Ghana Armed Forces for swiftly airlifting injured Ghanaian victims of the Titao insurgent attack back home for medical care.

The President also commended the Ghana Navy for its rapid response to the maritime incident, which ensured the safe return of the affected fishermen.

In response to the emerging threats, President Mahama announced plans to strengthen Ghana’s security architecture. He revealed that government will construct two new military barracks at Edwumako and Dabai to bolster operational readiness in strategic locations.

Additionally, he indicated that the Jubilee House has initiated plans to retool and modernise the Ghana Armed Forces to enhance the country’s capacity to respond to both land-based and maritime security threats.
