The Director-General (D-G) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has called for a probe into reports of extortion at the Terchire SHS in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo region. The D-G has directed the Ahafo Regional Director of Education to appoint a Committee of Enquiry to unravel the circumstances under which management of the school allegedly extorted various monies from the parents and students.

The final year students are reportedly paying GH¢4,000 (General Arts and Business students) and GH¢4,500 (Agricultural Science, Home Economics & Science) to write the exams.

These payments are besides GH¢10 per student for each paper they write in the ongoing examination and GHC300 hostel fees for final year students.

The proposed Committee is to submit a report of its findings by Friday, June 5, 2026 to the Director-General.

The Chronicle sources at the school confirmed that the GES team from the Regional Education Directorate visited the school on Monday and Tuesday and interacted with management and staff.

The team also met Nana Oko Agyemang Boakye, the Odikro of the Terchire community.

The team is calling for files and financial statements of the PTA and the school management.

Stephen Atiah Adams – Tano North Municipal Director of Education

Mr. Stephen Atiah Adams, Tano North Municipal Director of Education, who is also acting as the Headmaster of Terchire SHS, is assisting the GES team in their investigations, following complaints by some parents and reported by The Chronicle earlier.

Meanwhile, The Chronicle’s exposé has come to relieve the students as pressure on them to settle payments have been relaxed.

Some of the teachers are happy about the ongoing probe because the divide and rule tactics by management might be nib bed in the bud as a result of the action that has been taken by the GES.

About 181 final year students were said to have paid GH¢4,000 and GH¢4,500 respectively, according to a list on the desk of the school administration.

The students, who are paid up, are expecting a refund while those who have not paid a dime seem relieved of the pressure by teaching staff to redeem payments.

The Chronicle is still glancing through some files for an update on the rot and financial mismanagement in the School.
