Four to contest Subin seat on January 27 on NPP ticket

The Subin Constituency parliamentary seat will be keenly contested by four aspirants, including the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi.

The other contestants are Lawyer Obiri Yeboah, Dr. Papa Akwasi Frimpong alias Dr. Subin and Frank Kwadwo Duodu, the Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Since 1997, the Subin parliamentary seat has been occupied by the New Patriotic Party by Lawyer Sampson Kweku Boafo (1997-2000), Ambassador Isaac Osei (2009-2016) and Eugene Boakye Antwi (2017 – to date).

While the January 27 primaries happens to be the third bid of the incumbent and Mr. Duodu since 2017, Dr. Subin is vying for the second time and bent on making an impact at the elections.

While Lawyer Obiri Yeboah is making incursions in the constituency at his first attempt with the procurement of a bus and the proposed construction of an Astroturf for the constituency besides financial support for the constituency in their day-to-day activities, Frank Duodu, the grassroots man, has promised to lead the party with integrity and ensure transparency and accountability and thus inspire and empower constituents with his all inclusive approach to improve the potential individuals and bring about positive change and unity in the constituency.

Meanwhile, the Subin law maker, Boakye Antwi has defended his claim for a re-election having initiated a number of interventions since he assumed the political leadership of the party in 2017.

These include scholarships and bursaries for over 400 brilliant but needy students in Subin, renting a constituency office for the party since 2014, improved road networks (virtually 80% of Subin’s roads are asphalted); construction of mechanized boreholes and institutional toilets and the construction of an 80,000 liter mechanized borehole for the Metropolitan Fire service at the cost of GHC100,000 to serve Kumasi and its environs.

Other interventions initiated by the Subin MP are donation of 20 wheelchairs to Subin physically challenged persons; 50 sewing machines to Subin’s dressmakers & tailors; 80 cutting machines to Subin dressmakers and tailors and 50 irons to Subin dressmakers and tailors.

The rest of the interventions and donations are 30 industrial machines to Subin dressmakers and tailors; 60 standing hairdryers to hairdressers, 50 wall mounted hairdryers and 50 steaming machines to Subin hairdressers

The incumbent Subin MP has also donated 50 hair washing sinks and 200 hand-held hair dryers to Subin hairdressers while Barbers in the constituency have received barbering machines with yet another 70 hand sewing machines going to Subin dressmakers and tailors .

The female section of the Kumasi Central Prisons has benefited from a donation of a deep-freezer and polytank and annual donation of assortment of food and drinks to the inmates of the Kumasi central prisons.

Eugene has over the years donated over 15,000 school bags to school going children in the constituency and donated 4,000 exercise books and 10,000 mathematical sets to BECE pupils.

Meanwhile, one J. B. Danquah intends to contest the Subin Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate to give back to the constituents who have made him what he is. He wants to build the people and community.
