Four suspects in court over murder of ‘Holland Boga’

Four persons last week Friday appeared before the Bosomtwe Kuntanase District Court at Kuntanase, in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti, on a provisional charge of murder.

The four suspects, two males and two females, were named as Kwaku Frimpong, Thomas Mensah, Mavis Nyarkoh, aka Maame Amma and Mabel Ofori.

They are facing a charge of murder of Bernard Boateng, 27, a Holland-based Ghanaian.

The prosecution, led by the District Police Commander, DSP Eric Akwaboah told the court, presided over by His Worship, Francis Asekaya-Ana-Am, the deceased, Bernard Boateng returned home from Holland last December to celebrate Christmas with his family at Maakro, in the Suame Municipality of Ashanti Region.

The late Boateng was found dead at Aputuogya in the Bosomtwe District on Monday, January 10, 2022 after he visited a Holland-based colleague the previous day. The court also heard that, the deceased’s hands and legs were tied and subjected to severe beatings after he had been mistaken for a thief.

DSP Akwaboah, however, submitted that investigations into the murder of the deceased at Aputuoagya on Monday January 10, 2022, were ongoing and prayed for an adjournment.

The court upheld the plea of the prosecution and consequently remanded the suspects into police custody and   adjourned the case to Thursday January 27, 2022 for the suspects to reappear before it.

Speaking to the media later, the District Police Commander, DSP Akwaboah expressed worry over recent murder cases in the district. He frowned on instant justice and warned the public against it. The police chief advised the public to always hand over suspects to the police for the law to take its course since the police act on evidence.

According to him, effective policing thrives on the cooperation of members of the public who divulge accurate information.

Meanwhile, an Uncle of the late Bernard Boateng, Mr.Donkor Twumasi has called for justice because his nephew was a victim of circumstance.

Jones Owusu, the friend with whom the late Boateng visited Aputuoagya, confirmed that two of the suspects had confirmed beating the deceased, who been taken for a thief lurking around their premises at that time of the night.
