The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven police officers over an alleged extortion incident in Accra, in which a member of a patrol team is accused of compelling a civilian to withdraw money from an ATM for them.

The seven officers, whose names were released by the Police Service, are Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyravi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman and General Constable Bernard Amoako.

According to a statement issued by the Police Service, the officers, who were on patrol duty, allegedly demanded money from the victim and compelled him to make a withdrawal from an ATM.

The officers have since been interdicted to allow the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct investigations into the allegations.
The Police Service said the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and that appropriate action would be taken based on its outcome.

The interdiction comes as the Police Service continues efforts to address allegations of misconduct involving personnel and reinforce accountability within the service.
