A “die-hard” is a person who stubbornly resists change, refuses to give up old ways, or remains fiercely loyal to a specific belief, cause, or team, regardless of opposition or difficulty. In 1844, the term “die-hard” was applied to the 57th Regiment of Foot of the British Army at the Battle of Albuera, where the Lt. Col. commanding Lt. Col. William ordered his men to “die hard” rather than surrender to the enemy. Call it stubborn loyalty.
We are “die-hard” NPP; check our history, our record and our support for NPP, and for Nana Akufo-Addo, personally. BUT given our studies: Philosophy, Religion, History, Public Administration, Law (Masters), Political Science (Masters), English (Masters), and our tortuous (winding turns, unexpected setbacks, complex, not straight) paths in life, we can only rely on the motto of the Commonwealth Hall “Truth Stands” quoted from John Donne in “Satire III” to give our friends in NPP advice to be measured in their politics.
Charles Opoku, (Presidoo) says: “Wo behu Asanteni a w’agyimi a, na owo NDC party. Asanteni a onnim nyansa na n’adwen mu yɛ mmerɛ na ɔbɛkɔ NDC…” (Paraphrased: It is only a foolish Asante person who will join NDC). So, Nana Akwasi Agyeman, an Asante Oyoko royal (who could have been an Asantehene, but for our own Otumfuo Osei Tutu II) had a low mentality…, became Kumasi Mayor under Kutu Acheampong’s SMC, Limann’s PNP, Rawlings’s PNDC/NDC — for almost twenty (20) years till January 2001.
And Alfred Ababio Kumi (Adenta Kumi) on filing for NPP Youth Organiser will say: “NPP of 2024 is not the NPP of today. It’s time to be tough to anybody… if we have to go to war, we’ll face NDC shoulder-to-shoulder (mano-a-mano a la Bawumia) … The new NPP will not behave like the past but be aggressive, à la political retaliation.”
The Chief Justice, Baffoe-Bonnie goes to SSNIT, and says: “I must congratulate you… you have done marvellously well… when we hear about things you have done, we wonder what we really have been doing for the past eight years…” NPP says: it had watched with profound shock and disgust…” CJ sounding like a party (NDC) propagandist: “he should resign and take up membership of NDC.”
Oliver Barker-Vormawor thinks: “Some truths are not for judges to say” hence judges should be blind to reality, and ignore Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference statement that ‘resignation is disproportionate to the offence.’ Throw away Articles 125 and 127 of the Ghana Constitution? The Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct, complementary to the 1985 UN Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary?
Did the statement by the CJ compromise judicial impartiality? Prof. Agyemang-Duah thinks the CJ, “should apologise…” and Miracles Aboagye dares to call the CJ …. “errand person to the Vice President”!
With barely three months to end his term, and enjoy the goodies that go with his retirement? Resign?
A respectable party of intellectuals: professors, doctors, lawyers, what have you, now turning into rabble?
Is this the same party Kufuor left? Busia, J. H. Mensah, da Rocha; Abronye and insults; Afenyo-Markin’s aggressiveness? What is Nyaho-Tamakloe’s crime? We forget Eric Amoateng’s arrest in the US in 2005 for drug and President Mahama will receive the right-of-way from the Ghana Armed Forces for the ‘ambitious Accra-Kumasi Highway’ for the start of the construction of the first six-lane access-controlled toll expressway… The Chief of (what town?) would threaten the military.
But you will get a sensible chief like Nana Osei Tutu Agyeman of Kwaso who will say: ‘I am excited that such a monumental project is being undertaken in my time as Chief of Kwaso … and called on all Ghanaians to support the President and the project which would extend beyond Accra.’ – $2 billion earmarked for the project would be available by December of this year. Why shouldn’t the President ignore Asenso-Boakye’s letter urging the government not to … abandon the existing highway interventions.
Solomon Owusu, the spokesperson of present-day United Party (UP) says: “The NPP doesn’t believe in the ideas of the UP”. Of course, we note Nana Jantuah saying “God, punish those who hate President Mahama… if an NPP man says this, you will call him an NDC person… Mahama built the Accra-Kumasi Highway for you Asantes, NOT his home Bole-Bamboi.. we NPP built the Highway up to Kibi …
In this twenty-first century with the report from Artemis II space-craft an aspiring presidential candidate Akufo-Addo prayed that he would build a church for God if He helped him to become President of Ghana. He won. He kept (or rather started keeping) his promise, Pulled down judges’ residences, Judicial Training Institute, Passport Office, Mali Ambassador’s residence, Scholarship Secretariat, CHRAJ Deputy Commissioner’s residence,.
He said funding would be from ‘personal’ sources. Stories of corruption; pastors including Dag Heward Mills, Duncan Williams and Otabil resigned from the Board. Ken Ofori Attah, Finance Minister, would take money from the ‘Contingency Fund’ not ‘Consolidated Fund’ for the project refuses to return to Ghana over $90m wasted for a hole.
The National Cathedral, or call it Akufo-Addo … Cathedral, in the 21st century would be favorably compared with the Mahama Highway, reducing the 270 km distance to 190 km from Accra to Kumasi in 2 hours (Ougadougou to Bobo Diallaso’s 8 lane Highway in Burkina Faso).
Look, we want to read an explanation of the authorship of the ‘Agyapadie Book.’ With Respect, better reasoning is needed rather than the dismissal by that it is a ‘total fiction.’ Gabby Otchere-Darko’s warning: ‘If you believe a family will document its alleged evil plan against the very village they proudly live in, document it all in verified copies of a book and impose a portrait of the head of family boldly on its front cover, then please do have your head properly examined”. We are aware of a suit hanging on the head of Hopeson Adorye and Media General by Daniel Ofori Atta for GH¢10 million on defamation. Hear Hopeson recalling the first paragraph of the book: ‘… “to our future, made up of the present, and the unborn generations … the entire wealth of Ghana for his future generations and we are quiet about it… Databank is being utilised to do everything, including all the loans we are taking…”
Sorry to intellectuals (PhD holders, doctors, lawyers) who have allowed themselves to be conned by the alleged authors (including Danquah Institute)… but some of us, who have read the book (the mention of Kennedy Agyapong, John Boadu, …) and analysed the content thoroughly have our own opinion.
In “Ancient History” we learnt of Galileo Galilei, the astronomer (father of modern Science) who propounded that:
“All things revolve around the sun instead of the earth (heliocentrism) against the dogma of the Catholic Church that everything revolved around the earth (geocentrism) being the Aristotelian view that the earth was at the centre of the universe and that all heavenly bodies revolved around the earth… this shows God’s omnipotence.
In 1610, Galileo published his “Sidereus Nuncius” (Starry Messenger) which supported Nicolaus Copernicus in his De revolutionibus orbium coelestium of 1543 position on heliocentrism. Pope Urban VIII in 1633 got the Roman Inquisition to try Galileo for “vehement suspicion of heresy” (for his support for “heliocentrism”). Galileo was made to recant for challenging the church’s position on “geocentrism”. He was made to spend the rest of his life under house arrest. It was not until 1992 that Pope John Paul II officially resolved the issue and cleared Galileo’s name in his address at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. A Catholic? Yes. But what about the effect of “know-it-all” attitude?
