Fashion Designers Association Honours Napo for his benevolence

The NPP Manhyia South Constituency Fashion Designers Association in the Ashanti Region, comprising hairdressers, dressmakers and caterers, has honoured the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for his immense contributions towards the development of their wellbeing.

In a citation of honour presented to him in Kumasi, the Association mentioned the largesse of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh which had sponsored all their apprenticeship programmes over the years.

According to them, the support from the Energy Minister was in the form of monetary funds, sewing machines and other important tools to help them in the training.

In June last year, Dr. Opoku Prempeh funded the training of 80 youth in the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi to undergo a seven-week skills training programme in make-up artistry, fashion design and hair technology (hairdressing).

The training session being organised by the College of Beauty Arts and Entrepreneurship (CBAE) and Make-Up Ghana, took the participants through Time Management, Branding, Professional and Bookkeeping, Customer Care and Digital Marketing (advertising on Social Media), under Entrepreneurial Skills.

The participants also received all the learning materials and tools for the training programme, which was intended to help reduce unemployment and poverty among the youth and make them self-reliant.

A further 91 apprentices graduated in Fashion Design, Hair Technology, and Make-up Artistry in September 2022, after an eight-week skills training in Make-up Artistry, Fashion Design and Hair Technology (Hairdressing) under the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP).

Also, in December 2022, a second batch of 46 artisans in the Manhyia South Constituency graduated from a six-week intensive skills training programme, under the Youth Employment Project, bringing to 140 the total number of constituents who benefitted from the project, which was initiated by MP Matthew Opoku Prempeh, with the sole aim of reducing unemployment among the youth through skills training.

It is against this background that the leadership of the NPP Manhyia South Constituency Fashion Designers Association decided to honour the MP, who is also the Minister of Energy.

They presented assorted African wear prints to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his benevolence, besides a citation of honour.

An overwhelmed Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also called Napo by his admirers, assured them and the constituents of his continued support and desire to do more to promote human resource development and empowerment, and asked them to use the skills they had acquired to train others so they can equally benefit.
