Chief of Staff facilitates face-lift of Race course market

The Chief of Staff, Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has contributed towards the proposed facelift of the Race Course Market at Bantama in Kumasi.

She has donated 15 trips of sand, stones and 300 bags of cement for the pavement of parts of the market. Mrs Osei-Opare has also indicated that she would foot the workmanship of the artisans for the rehabilitation project.

The gesture is in response to an appeal to her last month, by leadership of the market traders for assistance in addressing the muddy areas of the market.

It also goes to affirm that the welfare of market women and women in general is Madam Osei Opare’s priority, in her bid to champion ideals and values of motherhood and to sustain the family Unit.

Nana Afia Kyeiwaa, the Race Course and Bantama market queen, on behalf of leaders of the market traders thanked the Chief of Staff for the rapid response to their distress call at such a short notice.

She noted that assistance would go a long way to create a convenient and a healthy environment for them to ply their trade.

According to her, the rehabilitation would facilitate free movement of goods at the market, upon the completion of work.

She said the traders could count on the Chief of Staff in particular and the government in general, in addressing the challenges the traders face at the new settlement.

“We have no choice, but to support the government to provide our needs and ensure we work in a better environment at the market to enhance our (traders) livelihoods”.

The market queen pledged the support of the traders for the government and assured them that they would turn out in their numbers to vote for the ruling New Patriotic Party at the elections.

Nana Kyeiwaa said traders who have threatened voter apathy in protest against the muddy portions of the market when it rains, now see the Chief of Staff as caring and a listening mother, and that, the traders have no excuse not to vote in the 2024 elections.
