The Bompata Branch of the Kristo Asafo Mission in Kumasi (the Mission’s maiden church to be established in the Ashanti Region), last Friday made a donation worth GHc135,000 to the Kumasi Central Prisons and the Kumasi Children’s Home.
The gesture, an annual rite, was in commemoration of the birthday (August 26) of their Founder, the Late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The items comprised 70 bags of rice, 15 bags of washing powder, 10 boxes of Soap, 20 packs of Tissue paper, 100 packs of Toilet Rolls, 20 packs of Sanitary pads and medical drugs (worth GHC85,000) to the Kumasi Central Prisons.
The Kumasi Children’s Home received 100 packs of Water, 70 packs of Drinks, 30 bags of Rice, 30 packs of Diapers, 25 packs of Toilet Rolls, 140 packs of cooked rice (worth GHC50,000) and an undisclosed amount of money.
Pastor Kwadwo Osei, Head of the Bompata Branch of the church disclosed that the benevolent act was initiated by their Founder in commemoration of his (Apostle’s) birthday, which has been sustained over the years.
He said the gesture would be continued into the future to protect the “legacy” of their great Leader and Founder, stressing that though he (Apostle) is late, they (members of the Mission) believe he is with them in spirit.
The Ashanti Regional Prisons Commander and Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Ing. James B. Mwinyelle received the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service and the inmates assuring the Church that the items would be used for its intended purposes.
He urged them to embark on education of the public and the youth to avoid deeds and traps of going to prison. Receiving the donation on behalf of the Kumasi Children’s Home, Cletus Frimpong Osei Kwarteng, Assistant Home Manager expressed appreciation to the Mission, noting that they are delighted and touched by the kind gesture.
