Award Winners of the 7th Ghana Energy Awards

The 7th Ghana Energy Awards was held on Friday, November 17, 202, in Accra, with 35 industry players grabbing various categories through competitive and non-competitive processes.

The 38 awards comprised 28 competitive categories and seven non-competitive categories, which went to some personalities in the energy sector.

President Akufo-Addo, who was the special guest of honour, presented the top four awards of the night.

They were the Energy Personality of the Year (Male), which was won by Edwin Provencal, Managing Director, BOST, with Energy Personality of the Year (Female) going to Kadijah Amoah, Chief Executive Officer, Pecan Energies Ghana.

The CEO of the Year (Power): Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, Managing Director, ECG, won that, and Dr. Ben K. D. Asante, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana National Gas Company, took home the CEO of the Year (Petroleum).

The Energy Company of the Year (Power): Ghana Grid Company; Energy Company of the Year (Petroleum): Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company; Energy Company of the Year (Renewable): Energy Technology; Energy Institution of the Year: Energy Commission; Energy Transition Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award: Dr. Ben K. D. Asante, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana National Gas Company; Rising Star Individual: Bradley Poku Amankwah, Principal Coordinator (Acting), Ghana Energy Transition Office, Sustainable Energy for All.

Further, the Rising Star Company of the Year went to Cubica Energy; the Green Chief Trailblazer Award was won by Wisdom Ahiataku-Togobo, Director (Renewable Energy), Bui Power Authority; the Energy Signature Award was won by Thomas Manu, Board Member, GOIL PLC; the Visionary Leadership Award was won by Ing. Oscar Amonoo-Neizer, Executive Secretary, Energy Commission; and the Innovative Project of the Year was won by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission.

Also, Energy Reporter of the Year went to Emmanuel Aboagye-Wiafe (Asaase Radio); Energy Think Tank of the Year: Africa Centre for Energy Policy; Energy Advocate of the Year: Benjamin Boakye, Executive Director, Africa Centre for Energy Policy; Health, Safety, and Environment Excellence Award: Tullow Ghana; and Excellence in Power Generation: Takoradi International Company.

The Clean Energy Initiative of the Year was won by Bui Power Authority; the Energy Investment Impact Award was won by the Japan International Cooperation Agency; and the Off-Grid Energy Solution of the Year went to Dutch & Co. Energy Access Leadership Award: African Development Bank; RE Infrastructure Project of the Year went to Bui Power Authority; the Diversification Pioneer Award was won by TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC; Brand of the Year was PETROSOL Ghana; and the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year was Volta River Authority.

NON-COMPETITIVE CATEGORIES

For the non-competitive categories, the Women in Energy Excellence Award went to Ing. Sophie Abena Tijani, FGHIE, Vice President, Ghana Institution of Engineering; the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr. Alfred Ofosu-Ahenkorah, former Executive Secretary, Energy Commission; and the Exemplary Leadership Award went to Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Chief Executive, National Petroleum Authority.

Dr. Bright Mawuko Sogbadji, Deputy Director Power (Nuclear and Renewable Energy), Ministry of Energy, was adjudged the Osagyefo Young Leadership Award; the West Africa Exceptional Leadership Award went to Hon. Monie R. Captan, Liberia Electricity Corporation.

Ing. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Chief Executive, Volta River Authority, was adjudged the Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) Hall of Fame award, and the Transformational Business Excellence Award went to Joseph Kweku Horgle, Chief Executive Officer, JK Horgle Transport and Company.

PANEL

The chairman of the awarding panel, Lawyer Kwame Jauntuah, concluded his address by saying that the award scheme has a five-member panel that scores sector nominees independently after they have presented their category of choice.

It is then sent to a validator, Mazas Ghana, an accounting firm, who presents the final results at the event grounds.

In his welcome address, the GEA event director, Ing Henry Teinor, listed the events that culminated in the award ceremony last Friday, after the award was launched on July 27, 2023.
