Ghanaian model, entrepreneur and cultural advocate Hamamat has opened up about her mission as Ghana’s Shea Butter Ambassador, calling on Ghanaians to embrace local products and help take the story of Ghanaian shea butter to the world.
Speaking in an interview with 3ENT, Hamamat shared her vision of using shea butter as more than just a beauty product, but as a powerful vehicle for promoting Ghana’s culture, heritage, tourism and economic potential.
According to Hamamat, true support for Ghana must begin with Ghanaians themselves.
“To truly support Ghana, we must consume Ghana. We must wear Ghana,” she said, stressing the importance of creating a culture where Ghanaians actively support and promote what the country produces.
For Hamamat, one of the biggest priorities is getting young people interested in Ghana’s shea butter industry.
She believes the younger generation must be introduced to the possibilities that exist beyond the traditional perception of shea butter as simply a product used on the skin.
Her vision includes exploring creative and innovative ways of refining and presenting shea butter, including quality consumable products where appropriate, while continuing to highlight its beauty and skincare uses.
The initiative, she explained, is about keeping the conversation alive and making shea butter relevant to a new generation.
Hamamat’s advocacy goes beyond the product itself. She sees the shea industry as an opportunity to tell a bigger Ghanaian story — one involving culture, heritage, tourism, women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and job creation.
A major part of that story is the women in Northern Ghana whose livelihoods are connected to the shea industry.
By creating greater demand and international awareness for Ghanaian shea products, Hamamat believes more attention can be directed toward the communities and women will play a crucial role in producing the resource.
