For many politicians, birthdays are marked with lavish parties, speeches and glowing tributes. But for the Ellembelle Member of Parliament (MP) and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, his 60th birthday became another opportunity to touch lives in the constituency he has represented for nearly two decades.

On Sunday, May 10, 2026 the five-term Legislator returned to his hometown of Eikwe in the Ellembelle District with gifts of compassion, relief and hope for patients and health workers at the Saint Martin De Porres Hospital.

Instead of cutting cakes and hosting a grand celebration, the veteran politician chose to spend the day with the sick, nursing mothers and vulnerable people, donating essential medical equipment, food items and financial support to patients receiving treatment at the facility.

The gesture, which drew emotions from patients and health workers alike, reflected what many residents in Ellembelle have come to associate with the longest-serving Member of Parliament in the Western Region, a politician whose political journey has often been intertwined with philanthropy and community support.

For close to 17 years since his first election to Parliament in 2009, Mr Buah has built a strong image in the constituency not only as a Legislator, but also as a social intervention advocate.

From scholarships for brilliant but needy students to youth empowerment programmes, community support schemes and food assistance initiatives, many residents argue that his impact stretches far beyond partisan politics.

At the Eikwe Saint Martin De Porres Hospital, the atmosphere on Sunday was one of gratitude and excitement as patients, nurses and hospital administrators welcomed the MP and his entourage.

The donation included assorted medical equipment to support healthcare delivery at the facility, quantities of rice, soft drinks and other food items used to provide meals for about 300 patients and staff of the hospital.

But perhaps the most emotional moment came when Mr Buah personally decided to settle the medical bills of 30 patients who had completed treatment, but were unable to pay for their discharge.

For some families, the intervention brought immediate relief from days of anxiety and uncertainty.

Several beneficiaries, some visibly emotional, could not hide their appreciation as they offered prayers and blessings for the MP.

“I did not expect this miracle today,” one patient reportedly said, after learning her hospital bill had been paid for her.

The MP also extended support to mothers in the maternity ward, presenting GH¢500 each to 50 women who had recently delivered at the hospital.

The gesture sparked joy among the mothers, many of whom described the donation as timely support, at a period when caring for newborns often comes with financial pressure.

Hospital authorities praised the intervention, describing it as a significant contribution towards healthcare delivery and patient welfare at the facility.

Beyond Ellembelle, Mr Buah also marked his birthday by reaching out to vulnerable children in the national capital, Accra, where over 2,000 street children were provided with meals as part of activities to commemorate his milestone age.

To many observers, the celebration captured the personality and character, including the political brand of the Ellembelle lawmaker, one deeply rooted in human-centered interventions and community engagement.

Over the years, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has remained one of the most recognizable political figures from the Western Region. Having served in various ministerial roles under different governments, including his current position as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, he continues to wield considerable influence in national politics.

Yet, despite his national responsibilities, constituents in Ellembelle often point to his accessibility and continued investment in local development as the reason for his enduring popularity.

Many residents credit him with spearheading infrastructure improvements, educational support and social intervention programmes across communities in the constituency.

His food bank initiative, scholarship schemes and youth empowerment projects have over the years provided assistance to hundreds of families and young people seeking opportunities for education and employment.

Sunday’s donation at the Eikwe hospital, therefore, appeared like a one-off birthday gesture and more like a continuation of a long-standing relationship between the MP and the people he represents.

As news of the donations spread across the constituency, many residents took to social media and community platforms to celebrate the MP’s milestone age while applauding his commitment to humanitarian causes.
