Akufo-Addo commissions Community Library and Technology hub at Bantama

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, joined Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, to commission a Community Library and Technology Hub named after him.

According to the MP, he built the edifice and named it after the President to show his appreciation for the huge investment and contributions to education in Ghana, since 2017.

He stated that, as the Lawmaker of the Bantama Constituency, his priorities were infrastructural, educational development and security to ensure that the living standards of the residents improved and that they lived without fear.

He explained that he decided to create a platform to embrace the reading habit, and promote the study of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) among children of school-going age in the constituency, and urged parents to support their wards with all their basic needs to enjoy the opportunities available.

President Akufo-Addo expressed his profound gratitude to Mr. Asenso-Boakye for honouring him while he was still alive.

The President said the appointment of the Bantama MP in his government as Deputy Chief of Staff and a full Cabinet Minister was based on his competence, hard work and loyalty and proven to be capable.

Mr. Victor Siaw, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Library Authority, commended the MP for Bantama for the edifice which he described as unique.

The facility is equipped with computers and other logistics to inculcate the habit of reading in the beneficiary school children.

He indicated that before 2017 there were only 61 libraries in the country, with only 349 books, but the Library Authority could now boast of about 127 libraries across the country with 1,500 books.

He disclosed that, the library had been furnished with books from the Kindergarten to Tertiary level, and that with the technology hub attached, one could register online for any book to buy or read.
