Akrokerri College of Education marks 60yrs

The Akrokerri College of Education has marked the 60th anniversary of its founding in 1962.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, graced the occasion, during which the Veep commissioned a building for Early Grade education system.

He commended the school for its contribution to educating students and encouraged the staff to keep on nurturing them to be responsible leaders.

The Veep described the school as a remarkable one for being at the forefront of learning opportunities for people from all walks of life.

He congratulated the various stakeholders for their dedicated contributions to the success of the College, and urged all the current staff to continue nurturing the coming generations of students, so as to help them realise their real potential and become responsible members of their communities and the nation.

The Chairman of the College Council of the Akrokerri College of Education, Mr. Addai Poku Aikins, who is also the Bosomtwe Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, was in attendance.

Earlier at a fundraising and dinner dance organised as part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the College at Akrokerri, Dr. Emmanuel Nyamekye, Principal of the College, who announced the Akrokerri College of Education, was among three Colleges of Education the government had earmarked to be upgraded to university status to strengthen teacher education and training to improve classroom performance and enhance teacher delivery.

He said the initiative of the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), when approved by Cabinet, would help improve the  quality of education delivery in the country.
