AngloGold Ashanti – Ghana, Obuasi Mine, has cut the sod for the commencement of work on an ultramodern school complex at Sanso, a mining community near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The project, when completed, is expected to replace the existing public school in the community and other adjourning communities, including Anwona, Nyamebekyere and Nhyieaso.

The GH¢5,000,000.00 project will  comprise a nine-unit classroom block, staff common room, Head teacher’s office, Sick Bay, Kitchen, Library (book and e-library), Computer Laboratory stocked with computers, as well as a well designed compound with a water fountain.

Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager Sustainability AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), at the sod cutting ceremony explained that the project was part of the 10 school blocks AngloGold Ashanti pledged to build for the people of Obuasi among other interventions in the educational sector, under its 10- year Socio-economic Development Plan launched in July 2022.

Mr. Baidoo reiterated the resolve of AngloGold Ashanti to partner the local authorities in Obuasi to accelerate the developmental projects to ensure that the communities in their catchment areas were better.
