The AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine, has marked its maiden engineering excellence awards, to honour remarkable individuals, teams, and contractors, for playing exceptional roles in promoting safety, innovation, reliability, and operational excellence throughout the Mine.
The event brought together a diverse group of attendees, including members from the Obuasi and Iduapriem Mines Site Leadership Teams, industry regulators, academic representatives, partners from the power sector, and engineering professionals.

The impressive mix of stakeholders highlights the Mine’s dedication to maintaining top-notch engineering standards, fostering local talent, and ensuring sustainable operational success.
Mr Orlando Yawson was named Best Engineering Stratum II-H for his outstanding leadership, which revolutionised KMS Underground maintenance, and led to the successful, incident-free delivery of critical projects.
Mr Alexander Adusei, who took home the Best Engineering Stratum II-L award, was recognised for his impeccable management of mine-wide shutdowns in 2025, achieved through careful planning, strong teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to safety.
The event also magnified women in engineering, showcasing the Mine’s commitment to inclusion and diversity.
Ms Sarah Agyen-Mensah was honoured with both the Best Engineering Female Employee Award and the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Award for her significant contributions across various operations.
Ms Constance Frimpong earned the title of Best Female Fabricator, while Gifty Ablordey was recognised as the Best Female Winder Driver, underscoring the growing impact and excellence of women in technical roles at Obuasi.
Team awards highlighted the extensive engineering capabilities present throughout the Mine, with CIC & OT being acknowledged for their project execution and innovation, Process Plant Engineering for their operational reliability and KMS for their continuous improvement efforts.
Special honours were awarded to individuals whose leadership and long-term contributions have significantly influenced engineering performance at Obuasi.
Mr Samuel Pobee, the Managing Director, was presented with the Exceptional Impact Award, recognising his strategic leadership and dedication to engineering excellence.
Mr Moses Tei-Mensah Oletey earned the title of Engineering Personality of the Year, while Mr Awie Frey received the Lifetime Contribution to Engineering Excellence Award for his lasting impact on operations, safety and people development.
Mr Eric Broni, the Director of Engineering, said the awards reflected the Managing Director’s vision of making Obuasi great again.
Mr Frey praised the awardees for setting high standards and motivating others to embrace the Mine’s values of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
