Twenty-two ladies from Sanso in the Obuasi Municipal who went through AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mines Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship Programme for 12 months have graduated at a ceremony at Obuasi.
The number made up of 10 hairdressers and 12 dressmakers received technical coaching, mentoring and entrepreneurship training in dressmaking and hairdressing to prepare them for self-employment. Each of the dressmakers received industrial sewing and knitting machines and a chair while the hairdressers also took home start-up kits, which included drier, kettle, chair etc.
Speaking at the event, Mr Edmund Oduro Agyei Director, Sustainability Management, AGA noted that the programme sought to create direct employment opportunities for the youth in the Sanso community.
He expressed satisfaction that all the 22 ladies showed interest in the opportunity offered them and seriously participated in the 12 month training programme. Mr Oduro Agyei used the platform to thank the experienced MasterCraft Persons who devoted their energies to train the apprentices to come out as mature entrepreneurs.
He mentioned that the entire programme cost AGA GHC306,177.40. Mr Daniel Arthur Bentum, Economic Development Superintendent of AGA said with the support of Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) and National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), all the 22 Entrepreneurs have gone through Certification process and have acquired NVTI certificates to validate their technical skills and improve employability
He said going forward the ladies will be given the opportunity to be trained in business management, records keeping, SSNIT registration etc. The Obuasi MCE, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, praised the young ladies for going through the one-year programme successfully.
Nana Osei Kwame, Edubiase Amaniehene who represented the Edubiasehene, Guahyia Oduro Panin Birikorang, expressed his appreciation to the MasterCraft Persons for taking the ladies through one year of vigorous training successfully.
He charged the ladies to be thankful to AGA for the support given to them and charged them to concentrate on what they have learnt and strive to be masters of their own.
