AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine has donated a Fire Tender to the Obuasi Branch of Ghana National Fire Service to assist the Service fight fire in Obuasi and its surrounding communities.

The Fire Tender

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Managing Director of the company, Ing. Samuel Boakye Pobee, said for some time now management of AGA had observed that the only Service vehicle was not in good condition, hence they decided to hand over one of their fire trucks to them. He called for periodic maintenance so that it will continue to be in good condition.

The Managing Director promised that AGA will give training on the use of the vehicle to the Fire Staff.

The Obuasi Municipal Fire Commander DOII Matthew Atubigah, said the jurisdiction of the Obuasi Fire Service was a big one and for that matter one Fire Truck was not enough, and thanked AGA for coming to the aid of the Service.

The Obuasi West Municipal Chief Executive, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, who received the truck on behalf of the Fire Service, thanked AGA for the donation.

She stated that ideally the government should have provided the vehicle, but coming from AngloGold has been a big relief to the Municipal Assembly.
