Dr Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, received a hero’s welcome at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The Abetifi MP, who arrived to rousing cheers from delegates and supporters, was visibly moved by the warm reception.
What began as a routine arrival quickly turned into one of the most memorable moments of the day, as the crowd, made up of regional executives, TESCON members, youth organisers and polling station officers surged towards him, waving flags and chanting his name.
Dr Bryan Acheampong did not take to the main stage, but his presence was strongly felt. Smiling and walking calmly through the crowd, he shook hands, waved in appreciation and paused several times to engage directly with delegates who chanted “Bryan!, Bryan!” and “BA for Ghana!”
In a short remark to a group of supporters near the inner ring of the stadium, he said:
“I’m deeply moved by the warm reception from delegates and supporters as I arrived at the National Conference today.
“Grateful for the energy, encouragement and believe in what we can build together, let’s unite and rebuild!”
TESCON members, particularly from various tertiary institutions, were visibly excited to see the Abetifi MP in person.
Several people rushed towards him upon his arrival, chanting slogans and calling him “one of our own.”
Some described his style as relatable and inclusive, pointing to his accessibility and commitment to youth development.
“He’s not just a minister sitting in Accra. He comes to the campuses, he engages us and he listens. That’s why TESCON is solidly behind him,” said a TESCON member from the University of Education, Winneba.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, known for his behind-the-scenes mobilisation and calm, yet firm leadership, was trailed by dozens of delegates trying to catch a glimpse or shake his hand. The warm reception was described by party members as a reflection of his ‘organic popularity.’
“He didn’t even need to give a speech. Just those few words, ‘we can build together’, were enough to charge the entire stadium. That’s leadership,” said a delegate from the Ashanti Region.
Others within the party say his recent role in national food security, youth empowerment and regional engagements have endeared him to the rank and file.
His decision to walk in without fanfare also won the admiration of many, who saw it as a display of humility.
