Heart of Lions secured their first home victory of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season after edging FC AshantiGold 04 3-2 in a thrilling Matchweek Five encounter at the Kpando Sports Stadium.
The hosts made a blistering start to the game and took the lead in the 19th minute through William Oduro, who found the back of the net to put Lions 1-0 ahead.
AshantiGold responded almost immediately, with Raphael Kwame Junior Ankamah restoring parity just a minute later to make it 1-1.
The visitors’ joy was short-lived, however, as Heart of Lions regained the lead in the 24th minute. Francis Odoom calmly converted from the penalty spot to put the home side 2-1 up.
Lions continued to press for another goal and were rewarded in the 36th minute when Oduro scored his second of the afternoon to extend their advantage to 3-1.
The hosts suffered a setback moments later when Emmanuel Arthur was shown a red card in the 37th minute, leaving Lions to play the remainder of the match against ten men.
AshantiGold took advantage of their numerical superiority after the break and reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute through Ankamah, who also completed his brace.
The Elephants pushed forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, but Heart of Lions held firm to secure all three points.
