The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected a new national leadership team to steer the affairs of the party towards the 2028 General Elections, with former General Secretary John Boadu emerging as National Chairman.

Mr Boadu secured 2,888 votes to defeat former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 2,048 votes, and former National Chairman Paul Afoko, who obtained 490 votes, at the party’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

His victory followed a last-minute alliance with Sammy Crabbe, who withdrew from the chairmanship race as voting got underway and threw his support behind Mr Boadu.

The elections, which covered nine national executive positions, attracted more than 7,000 delegates from across the country, with the Electoral Commission supervising the exercise.

Justin Frimpong Kodua retained the position of General Secretary, polling 4,486 votes to beat former Ngleshie Amanfro MP Sylvester Tetteh, who obtained 1,340 votes.

Former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi polled 162 votes, while Dr Charles Dwamena secured 126 votes.

New vice-chairmanship team

Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, was elected First Vice Chairman after obtaining 3,116 votes.

Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, followed with 3,061 votes to secure the Second Vice Chairman position, while Nana Akomea won the Third Vice Chairman slot with 2,981 votes.

The three, together with the other newly elected executives, were subsequently sworn into office to begin their tenure as members of the party’s new national leadership.

Abanga takes charge of youth wing

Abanga Fuseini Yakubu emerged National Youth Organiser after polling 1,550 votes in a six-candidate contest.

His closest contender, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, obtained 631 votes, while Michael Osei Boateng polled 78, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah 46, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi 44 and Alfred Kumi Ababio 25.

Mr Abanga takes over from Salam Mustapha and is expected to lead the party’s youth mobilisation efforts.

During his campaign, he pledged to prioritise youth mobilisation and set a target of securing four million youth votes for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 elections.

Hawa Koomson, Aboagye elected

Former Awutu Senya East MP Mavis Hawa Koomson was elected National Women’s Organiser after polling 783 votes, beating Hajia Safia Mohammed, who obtained 429 votes.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, meanwhile, was confirmed as Director of Communications after going unopposed.

Mr Aboagye takes over from Richard Ahiagbah and brings experience from the NPP’s 2024 presidential campaign, during which he served as spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The new executives assume responsibility for the party’s national structures as the NPP begins preparations for the 2028 General Elections following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
