The Chief of Akaporiso, Nana Bosompen Kitikyie Apenteng II, has appealed to Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, to intervene and ensure the completion of the stalled Obuasi East Municipal Assembly administration block.
Nana Kitikyie made the appeal when the Minister and the Coordinating Director visited his Palace during a working tour of the Assembly, to assess pressing challenges and development progress in the area.
According to the chief, the project was started by the previous government but has been abandoned for some time, affecting the administrative work of the Assembly and the overall development of the municipality.
He commended the NDC government for its performance and appealed for more road networks as legacy projects for the municipality.
He urged the Municipal Chief Executive not to be distracted, but to ensure the government delivers on its commitment to improve living standards.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene assured the chief and residents of the government’s commitment to complete the administration block and other ongoing projects. He said the government would ensure that every district gets its fair share of the national cake.
According to him, 80% of the Assembly Common Fund comes directly to the Assemblies for development, including classroom blocks, Boreholes and health projects. He noted that 10% has been earmarked for educational infrastructure and 20% for the completion of legacy projects.
He added that 25% of the funds are allocated to the 24-hour economy initiative that includes market, police stations, clinics, and fire service stations as strategic projects for private developers.
He also announced 10km of roads for every district, with additional allocations from mineral funds for districts in mining areas. Dr. Amoakohene commended the management and staff of the Assembly for supporting the MCE.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi East, Mr. Williams Kofi Zowu, outlined several ongoing projects, including educational infrastructure, health facilities, boreholes and other social interventions aimed at improving living standards in the municipality.
