3 illegal miners arrested at Kwamisa Forest Reserve

The Ofinso District Forest Services Division has arrested three illegal miners at the Kwamisa Forest Reserve for illegal entry.

The suspects are Kwadwo Sarfo, 34, Kwaku Prince, 33, and Felix Agyei, 18.

A fourth suspect, Kofi Matthew, who is said to be on the run, is being trailed by the police, while the arrested suspects are helping in investigations before they are arraigned before the court for prosecution.

Mr. Kobina Baiden, District Manager, told media that upon a tip-off, forestry guards and a rapid team, with support from the Mankranso Police Services Division, arrested the three illegal miners who had entered the Kwamisa Forest Reserve at Ahwrewa, near Adugyama, in the Ahafo Ano South East District.

Mr. Baiden pleaded with the citizenry, especially stakeholders, opinion leaders and Nananom (chiefs), to always assist them to safeguard the forest reserves from illegalities.

He urged chiefs and politicians to refrain from mediation when the perpetrators are arrested to face the full rigour of the law, to serve as a deterrent to others.
