11 defect from Obour’s camp to join incumbent MP’s campaign

The dream of Hiplife Artist and Managing Director of Ghana Post Company Limited, Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obuor, to win the Asante Akim South parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hit a snag, as eleven (11) of his Zonal Campaign Coordinators have defected from his camp.

They have joined forces with the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Kwaku Asante Boateng, who is seeking re-election to represent the constituency in the Parliament of Ghana, on the ticket of the UP tradition, for the fourth time.

Among the eleven are Christian Agyei-Kusi (alias Nana Oboanipa) and Nana Otutuatuo, who were representing the Juaso zone; Samuel Ashaley of Yaw Barima Electoral Area and Tanko Saani, both representing the Komeso zone; Anku of Pra River-Formanso and Kyei Felix of Muramura, both representing the Nnadieso zone.

The rest are Eric Darkwa of Bompata and Azuma Peter, representing the Bompata zone and James Agyen and Asankare Tailor, representing Asankare zone.

The 11 publicly announced their defection from Obuor’s campaign team on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 during the campaign launch of Boateng.

The defectors mounted the podium and recounted how Obour had promised them various incentives during the previous primaries, but failed to deliver on those commitments.

They, therefore, openly declared their support for the incumbent MP, emphasising the trust and reliability they associate with him.

The defection of the 11 presents a big blow to Obour’s campaign as he and the rest of his campaign team members would have to regroup and re-strategise on the way forward.

The move also adds to the substantial advantage of the incumbent MP to be re-elected to represent the constituency a fourth time on the ticket of the NPP.
