Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV has officially assumed office as the President of the Denkyira Traditional Council (DTC) following his installation and coronation as the 26th Denkyirahene on October 20, 2025.
The Dekyirahene, known in private life as Oscar Mensah Kessie succeeds Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem III, who ascended the throne at the age of 33 years, reigned for 61 years from 1955 to 2015 and passed on at the age of 94.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at a meeting of the Traditional Council held at Amponsem Ahenfie at Dunkwa last Friday. The meeting was also used to formally introduce and install the 26th Denkyirahene following the receipt of his gazette certificate.
His Lordship Justice Kwame Polley, High Court Judge at Dunkwa, administered the Official Oath and Oath of Allegiance to the Denkyirahene. Justice Polley congratulated the chief on his installation and commended the Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua III, and the traditional authorities for ensuring a peaceful installation of the Denkyirahene.
He pledged to support the speedy settlement of cases involving the Denkyira Traditional Area before the court, following an appeal by the Denkyirahemaa for assistance in resolving chieftaincy and other disputes in the traditional area.
On behalf of the divisional chiefs, sub-chiefs and all the traditional authorities, the Gyaasehene, Barima Siaw Panin III, pledged their full support and cooperation to the new President of the Traditional Council.
The Denkyirahene Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities for their confidence in selecting him as the 26th King of Denkyira. He said his first priority as President of the Traditional Council is to pursue peace, unity and development in the Denkyira State.
The Denkyirahene also expressed appreciation to the Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua III, Denkyira Abusuapanin, Nana Ponfo Agyemang III and all the traditional authorities for their roles in his selection and installation.
He further thanked the traditional leaders who held the fort prior to his ascension to the throne and appealed to all the traditional authorities to promote peace and bring chieftaincy and other disputes before his palace for amicable settlement rather than allowing them to linger in court.
Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV disclosed that the Denkyira State would perform the final funeral rites for the late Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem III next year and followed by the Odwira celebration.
He called for peace and unity within the kingdom particularly the Diaso chieftaincy dispute
ahead of the two important traditional events.
He noted that it was incumbent on Diaso, as the Adonteng Divisional Head, to take its rightful place in the Denkyira Traditional Council and urged the factions involved in the Diaso chieftaincy dispute to, as a matter of urgency, resolve their differences before the planned traditional events next year.
Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Akwesi Sarpong, the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Rudolf Amoakoh Gyampah, and other government officials.
