A leading gold mining company, Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, has reinforced its commitment to agricultural development in the Eastern Region, emphasising that the prosperity of the nation is inseparable from the strength of its agriculture.

Farmers Day, instituted in 1985, following Ghana’s recovery from severe drought and food shortages, has since become an annual platform to honour the contributions of farmers and fisher folks nationwide.
It also serves as a rallying point for government and private entities to support the agricultural value chain, an essential backbone of the national economy.
In line with this year’s celebrations, Zijin Golden Ridge Limited has donated items valued at over USD $18,000 to the Birim North District and the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council.
The donation, aimed at incentivizing hard-working farmers, includes tricycles, motorbikes, farm inputs, electrical appliances and other logistics to support award winners.
According to the company, agriculture is central to Ghana’s development agenda, adding that “agriculture remains pivotal to Ghana’s growth as it feeds our nation and secures our future. We are happy to augment the Government’s efforts and hope these items motivate and encourage our local farmers,” the company said.
Regional Agric Directorate Praises Zijin’s Consistent Support
Receiving the items on behalf of the region, the Regional Director of Agriculture, Hajia Yusif, applauded Zijin for its unwavering partnership and longstanding support to the agricultural community.
“Over the years, Zijin has been a valued partner, and this year is no exception. We are overwhelmed by the level of support for this year’s Farmers Day.
“We look forward to deeper collaboration to build the capacities of farmers and the agricultural industry in the district and region,” she said.
She assured that all donated items would be awarded to deserving farmers who have excelled in crop production, livestock rearing, agribusiness, innovation and climate-smart farming practices during the year under review.
The Acting General Manager of Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, Mr. Kwesi Aglago, emphasised that sustainable development requires strong collaboration between industry and agriculture.
“Zijin remains committed to supporting community development through agriculture. Partnerships between mining companies and the agric sector are vital for sustainable growth and rural transformation,” he noted.
Mr. Aglago added that the company’s contributions align with Ghana’s broader goals of modernizing agriculture, enhancing food security and supporting rural livelihoods, especially in mining districts where livelihoods depend on both land and natural resources.
Its contributions to the Eastern Region’s Farmers Day celebration add to a growing list of community-centered interventions that have improved livelihoods in Birim North and surrounding areas.
Zijin Golden Ridge Limited is a subsidiary of Zijin Mining Group Limited, one of the largest international mining groups in the world with operations in 18 countries.
“We are committed to advancing mining engineering, design, and technology to meet the needs of this changing world.
“We are committed to fostering a workplace where every individual can grow, thrive, and succeed.
“A place where health and safety are never compromised and where excellence and compliance go hand in hand”, the company said.
