The former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister under the erstwhile John Manama administration, Joseph Yammin, has said the weak organisational structures discovered in the branches during the national outreach exercise embarked upon by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Executives was attributable to what he calls ‘the lazy approach’ exhibited at the party organisational department, led by the National Organiser, Joseph Hamidu Akamba.
According to Joseph Yammin, who also served as a former Deputy Sports Minister, the Organisational Department comprised of the women and the youth wings of the party, with the National Organiser leading the onslaught, and that any defect in terms of its potency must be placed at the doorsteps of the National Organiser.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle in Kumasi, Mr. Yammin said the outcome of the National Outreach Programme by the NDC National Executives indicated that the party branches in some constituencies were weak and needed some reinforcement, thereby creating the need for the National Organiser, Joshua Hamidu Akamba, who he described as a failure, to bow out for a fresh replacement with new ideas to rejuvenate the energy of the party at the grassroots levels.
On what he brings to the table, Mr. Yammin, who is also the NDC National Organiser-hopeful, noted that he once served as the party Regional Secretary in the Ashanti Region, and a parliamentary candidate for Kwadaso Constituency, which afforded him the privilege to interact and know the needs of party members at the ward and branch levels.
This, he said, had equipped him with the experience to be able to mobilise the grassroots members to work for the victory of the NDC in the coming general elections.
He said, as someone who has the proven ability to understand party problems and provide on the spot solutions to same, he would carry the masses along by providing inspirational leadership, which, he said, was currently lacking at the NDC organisational department.
In response, the National Organiser, Joseph Hamid Akamba, told The Chronicle that he was popular on the ground and had done enough work to enable him retain his position in the coming NDC national elections. He accused Joseph Yammin of doing little to help revamp the fortunes of the NDC in the Kwadaso Constituency, which, he said, was among the NDC constituencies with weak branches.
The National Democratic Congress commissioned its national executives soon after the 2020 general elections to embark on an outreach programme in the party branches in all the 275 constituencies throughout the country to ascertain some of problems that worked against the party’s victory in the 2020 general elections.
Some of the problems identified, according to Mr. Akamba, included weak organisational structures at branches levels, thereby compelling the members to preoccupy their efforts in revitalising the branches throughout the country.
