Wontumi threatens to cause arrest of ‘Assin Dompim Showboy’

The feud between the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Bosiako and presidential aspirant of the party, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is getting out of hand, with the former threatening to teach ‘Assin Dompim Showboy’ some political lessons.

Kennedy Agyapong stormed the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi last weekend with his mammoth Showdown Walk. Media reports suggest Kennedy rebuked the Ashanti Regional NPP executive members, and did not leave out Wontumi.

The tough-talking politician reportedly dared Wontumi to “make a mistake and he will see men in Ghana.” He accused the Ashanti NPP chair of setting up a radio and television station to rain insults on senior party members.

However, reacting to the Assin Central MP’s outburst, at a news conference in Kumasi yesterday, Bernard Antwi-Bosiako also accused the legislator of threatening him during his recent visit to Kumasi.

A visibly worried Wontumi told the media that similar threats issued by the same ‘Assin Dompim Showboy’ saw the mysterious assassination of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, who worked with the Tiger Eye PI team.

Chairman Wontumi, therefore, threatened to cause the arrest of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong if he threatens him again. “I will cause your arrest if you threaten me again”, he warned.

Wontumi, who made his address mainly in Twi, said the presidential aspirant had carved a niche as a loose talker, attacking and insulting chiefs and judges, without any restraint.

Mr Boasiako denied Kennedy’s claim that he used his radio station in Kumasi (Ash FM) to support NPP in the 2016 general elections.

Chairman Wontumi, who was in black attire, challenged Kennedy that in the run up to the 2016 General Elections, he (Wontumi) paid for airtime to air the People’s Forum, a political programme which was run on ASH FM.

According to him, it is never true that the ‘Assin Dompim Showboy’ solely helped the Ashanti region to win massively in the 2016 General Elections.

Throwing a challenge to Kennedy Agyapong, business man cum philanthropist, Wontumi, told the media that he has never insulted him on his television and radio stations and that, he should provide the evidence of the insult and he (Wontumi) would be ready to apologise.

Turning to other matters, the Ashanti Regional NPP chairman thanked the Electoral Commission for successfully organising the Limited Registration Exercise in the region, adding that the youth in Ashanti were largely captured during the exercise.

In a sharp reaction to Chairman Wontumi’s assertion at the news conference that he footed the bill for the ‘People’s Forum’ programme, Odeefour Kwasi Kay, Ag. Manager at Ash FM denied receiving such an amount from Wontumi.

He asked Wontumi to name the amount he paid to Ash FM, asking “was there any acknowledgement about the money the Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP is talking about”.

He insisted that “Chairman Wontumi did not give any money to Ash FM.”
