Wish4life advocating for funds towards childhood cancer care

Dr. Tanya Maria Trippett, Founder of Wish4life, is appealing to the public to contribute their widow’s mite towards the construction of a US$261,615,747 hospital, purposed for the treatment and care for childhood cancer patients in the country, and across the West Africa sub-region.

She said the symbolism of the hospital was to bridge the gap in the cure rates of children in limited resourced nations, ranging from 5-20%, compared to 80-85% in the United States.

The 400,000 square 100-bed facility would be sited at Asikam, near Kyebi, in the Abuakwa South Municipality in the Eastern Region.

It would be a three-storey building, accommodating consulting rooms, wards, a cafeteria, a playroom, meeting rooms, laboratory, places of convenience, and washrooms among others.

Launching “Voice for Life Campaign” in Accra on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Dr. Trippett said the imbalance between cancer pediatric treatment in developed countries in comparison to periphery countries could be breached if all well-meaning members of society put their shoulders to the wheel by contributing, at least, GH¢50.00 each.

Dr. Tanya Trippett and the Wish4Life Foundation are making a change in child care through the building of a humanitarian network of world-class partners with architectural firm Adjaye and Associates, and industry leaders, including Siemens Healthineers, IBA, Elekta, Hoffmann La Roche, Quest Diagnostics, Vanu, Istari Global and Novartis.

She said the design was in accordance with western standards, as the new hospital would promote the dignity and elevate the spirits of the children and families who were undergoing treatment for cancer, while vastly improving their chances for survival.

Dr. Trippett said the objective of the foundation was to overcome the existing healthcare disparity by addressing the needs of children with cancer.

She said Wish4Life Foundation was a global multinational nonprofit organisation, created to address the disparity in high quality healthcare for children with cancer in limited resourced nations.

Additionally, the project was expected to bring together qualified doctors across the globe to boost the treatment and care for childhood cancer patients, and also serve as a comprehensive medical and research training centre for medical professionals.

Experts from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and other US-based cancer centers have been recruited by Dr. Trippett, as well as professional volunteers from Wish 4 Life Foundation, are working closely with the local authorities, medical professionals, engineers, and business professionals for the physical realisation of the hospital.

Wish4life Foundation is receiving donations in the following Stanbic Bank account numbers 9040011166886 and 9040011167211, and the branch is on the Spintex Road. The Swift code: SBICGHAC.
