The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vowed to match the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) boot-for-boot in the Volta Region, the latter’s stronghold.
According to the Volta Regional Secretariat, the party is adequately prepared to considerably increase the number of presidential votes in the region.
Addressing the media at a soiree in Ho, the Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Makafui Kofi Woanya, said the plan is to increase the fortunes of the NPP in the region for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to win the 2024 general election and to enable him to continue with the development agenda of the government.
The regional leadership of the NPP said the Volta region could no longer be said to be the stronghold of the NDC, as the party lost control over the area.
Therefore, the NPP would take advantage of the situation to educate the electorate to appreciate the need to vote for the NPP, as the party that brings more development to the people.
The NPP said it would surprise the NDC again in the region in the pending general election by winning more seats, in addition to the Hohoe Constituency.
The party intends to demonstrate to the NDC that the people of the Volta region have changed for the better.
Mr. Woanya observed that the NDC used propaganda over the years, which made the people of the region always vote for them.
On the contrary, he argued that it was becoming increasingly clear to the electorates in the region that they had been deceived for far too long.
The NPP Regional Chairman assured the NDC that campaigns for the 2024 general election would be based on facts and figures in terms of developments in the region.
The party says the era of ethnic politics, which the NDC used to deceive the people of the region for votes over the years is over.
Mr. Woanya said the NDC had no campaign message for the electorate, adding that in the history of democratic governance, the umbrella party could not boast of any social intervention programme as compared to the NPP.
He cited the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), capitation grant, school feeding programme, and many more under former president J.A. Kuffour and Free Senior High School, among others, under President Akufo-Addo.
According to the NPP Chairman, the party was more united in the region and that will serve as a weapon that will help in the campaign activities, carry along floating voters and ‘break the eight’.
Mr. Woanya explained that the election of Dr. Bawumia as the presidential candidate of the NPP has deflated NDC propaganda that the NPP is an Akan party.
The Volta Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Pope Yevoo, commended the role of the media in the development of the region and the country in general.
He reminded media practitioners to offer equal opportunities to political parties, particularly the NPP and the NDC, with an emphasis on radio stations in the region.
Mr. Yevoo said it was unfortunate that some radio presenters in the Volta region have failed the people in the region during their programmes, because instead of educating their listeners they tend to support the NDC to deceive the public on issues that the radio hosts needed to correct.
The Regional Secretary, therefore, urged radio presenters to educate the public on issues that the NDC tried to throw dust in the eyes of the people to enable them to make an informed choice, as to which political party they would vote for in the 2024 general election.
