Use of high estrogen contraceptives causes cancer; Psychologist

Women have been advised against the regular use of high estrogen contraceptives, because they caused ovarian cancer.

Dr. Susan O. Koduah, Founder and Executive Director of Susan Organisation, a non-profit organisation based in the United States of America (USA), asked women to refrain from the use of such contraceptives to prevent them from suffering from Ovarian and other related cancers, including vulva, liver and urine cancers, known to be afflicting women in recent times.

She gave the admonition when she visited cancer patients at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Gynaecology Cubicle to give them drugs and interact with them and the staff ahead of the Christmas festivities. The aim was to help the vulnerable in society, especially, cancer patients in the various hospitals.

According to her, most of the cancers, especially, cervical cancer, were caused by the use of high estrogen contraceptives, and the delay in reporting to the health facilities like the Korle-Bu and Komfo Anokye Teaching hospitals, and rather rely on native doctors and herbalists.

Dr. Koduah entreated women to desist from the usage of contraceptives that had not been approved or prescribed by their doctors or physicians.

She also advised women to visit the hospitals, especially Komfo Anokye and Korle-Bu, occasionally, to check their general health, instead of relying on native doctors and herbal clinics, for the early detection of cases to ensure timely, effective, and efficient treatment.

She commended the staff and the nurses for the wonderful work and treatment of patients at the wards, and urged them to keep saving the lives of their patients.

Madam Afia Serwaa Yegbe and Mrs. Comfort King, Deputy Nurse and Acting Manager in charge of the department, expressed their profound gratitude to Dr. Susan Koduah and her organisation for the kind gesture.
