The United Nations has thrown its weight behind Ogun State’s industrialisation, agriculture and skills development drive, with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed calling for stronger collaboration to scale up the state’s development efforts.
She spoke in Abeokuta during a courtesy call on the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in his office in Abeokuta, the state capital, where she highlighted the United Nations’ focus on its deliberations at the local level, where the people are situated, during the forthcoming General Assembly.
According to her, the local level is where jobs are needed, and the foundations are strengthened for future generations.
The Deputy Secretary-General, while commending the Federal Government for investing in its own priorities through the Renewed Hope Agenda, said that a lot of things would change with the advent of technology and AI.
Speaking on the Sustainable Development Goals agenda framework, which she said all member countries of the United Nations have agreed to implement, Muhammed said that it is basically an economic agenda that is inclusive and pays for public services and institutions.
“The United Nations would focus its deliberations on the local level where the people are situated during the forthcoming General Assembly, noting that the local level is where jobs are needed, and the foundations are strengthened for future generations,” she said.
