A fifteen (15) member delegation from Uganda is in Ghana for a-4 day visit to learn from Ghana’s justice delivery system.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Chief Justice, Justice Richard Buteera, commenced their visit on Monday, and would use the four days to learn and adopt some of the best practices of Ghana’s justice system to improve its justice administration.
Some of the takeaway lessons that the group is expected to harness include policy, legal, institutional framework, operations, practices, initiatives, and innovation that would be applicable to the Uganda Judiciary.
The cornerstone of their learning experience would be how their counterpart in Ghana is using technology or court automated systems to advance the course of justice delivery.
In order to lift Ghana’s experience into theirs, the delegation had among their team, registrars, a planning, research, and development officer, public relations officer, a commissioner of engineering and technical services, a commissioner of human resources, a principal secretary, a head of IT and head of policy and planning Unit who would be attached to the various departments of their host.
Justice Buteera used the first day to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Justice of Ghana, Anin Yeboah as well as interact with the judges of the Supreme Court.
The courtesy call was followed by a tour of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Martyrs Square, and the Law Court Complex.
The team, per their itinerary, would also visit the courts in Kumasi, the newly inaugurated residence for the Court of Appeal in Kumasi, and the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu.
According to a statement from the Ghana Judicial Service, the delegation is in the country because they see Ghana as one of the countries on the African continent with a thriving judiciary.
The statement described the first day of the tour as very successful.
