A heavily loaded articulated truck was involved in a road crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway (Accra-Kumasi Highway) on Saturday morning, causing a complete blockade of the road in both directions.

The crash has halted traffic for vehicles travelling to and from Accra and Kumasi, according to a traffic advisory issued by the Ghana Police Service on its official X account.

The Police said officers from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), based in Kibi, had been deployed to the scene to manage traffic and facilitate diversions.

Under the temporary traffic management arrangement, motorists travelling towards Accra are being diverted through Kibi at Nsutam, while those heading towards Kumasi are being redirected at Apedwa. The diversions took effect from 10:00 a.m. today, July 18, 2026.

The Police appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with officers on duty as efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.

No casualties or the cause of the crash had been disclosed at the time the advisory was issued.
