Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to complete a move to Real Madrid on a five-year deal, signaling the conclusion of an extraordinary two-decade tenure with Liverpool.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano shared the update on Monday via X, stating that a verbal agreement has already been finalized between the player and the Spanish club.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, here we go,” Romano confirmed. “Documents are being prepared for Trent to sign a five-year contract with Real Madrid.”
The transfer follows closely on the heels of Alexander-Arnold’s public revelation that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current season.
Liverpool’s vice-captain made the heartfelt announcement in the wake of the club clinching their 20th Premier League title, a historic achievement.
“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” said the 26-year-old defender. “This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”
Having emerged from Liverpool’s youth academy and grown into a pivotal figure for the team, Alexander-Arnold noted that he intentionally delayed discussing his future in order to concentrate fully on the club’s title push.
“I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No.20,” he said.
The England international is now expected to embark on a new phase of his career with European powerhouse Real Madrid, beginning a fresh chapter in La Liga.
