Those aggrieved should go to court –Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has asked those aggrieved with the outcome of the presidential election to approach the court.

Gbajabiamila, in a welcome-back address on Tuesday, said those aggrieved must avoid actions or utterances that set the stage for interventions that could be fatal to Nigeria’s democracy.

It would be recalled that opposing parties are challenging the ongoing declaration of presidential election results.

Also, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has joined the call for the cancellation of the election.

The Speaker noted that the constitution provides the process for challenging the outcome of the presidential election.

“The constitution of our republic and the Electoral Act that governs elections in Nigeria both define a framework of post-election dispute resolution and adjudication. This framework exists to protect the integrity of our elections.

“It ensures that when elections fail to meet expectations, contested issues of facts and law can be resolved through a due process within a legal framework befitting a constitutional democracy.”
