Thomas Partey’s fitness is being monitored after the Ghana midfielder picked up a knock that ruled him out of Al-Shabab’s 1-1 draw with Al Hazem on Sunday.
Partey made his debut for the Saudi Pro League side last week, playing in their 3-3 draw against Al Riyadh, but was absent from the matchday squad for Sunday’s fixture after suffering the minor setback.
The 33-year-old joined Al-Shabab on a one-year contract as a free agent following his departure from Arsenal and had been expected to play an important role for the Saudi club.
While the knock is not considered a major injury at this stage, its timing will be of interest to Ghana, with the Black Stars preparing for the start of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Ghana will face Ivory Coast in Bouake on September 24 in their opening qualifier before hosting The Gambia in Accra three days later.
Partey remains an important figure in the Black Stars midfield, particularly after his experience at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Arsenal midfielder’s availability could therefore be crucial as Ghana seek to make a strong start to their qualification campaign.
The Black Stars missed out on the last Africa Cup of Nations and will be determined to avoid another failure to reach the continental tournament.
Ghana’s technical team will now monitor Partey’s recovery closely in the coming weeks, with his condition expected to become clearer before the squad is named for the September qualifiers.
