A flagbearer hopeful of the leading opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Duffour, has asked Ghanaians not to lose hope in life and Ghana. According to the former Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, the next NDC government, under his leadership, would bring socio-economic relief.
Highlighting some of the economic records achieved during his term in office as Finance Minister, the soft-spoken NDC flagbearer aspirant disclosed that he was able to constantly keep inflation under single digits. He attributed the achievement to sound and prudent economic management, which he passed with distinction.
The former Finance Minister disclosed this in an interview with the media shortly after he submitted a flagbearer form to lead the party. He was sure of winning the upcoming presidential primary, adding that the battle had just begun.
Dr. Duffour assured the nation that the NDC remained deeply committed to improving the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian, by creating job opportunities and schemes for traders after winning Election 2024.
According to him, NDC seeks to create opportunities for all, as a strategic effort to tackle the unemployment rate in the country. “The submission of the forms means we are ready to start the battle,” said Dr. Duffour.
He said that the NDC was coming back in 2025 to restore hope for Ghana’s economy, and to make vast differences, in terms of administering a country in 2025. He said Ghanaians were facing challenges in the country, but there was great hope for them after winning Election 2024.
Dr. Duffour also revealed that the party was coming to put measures in place to reduce the inflation rates in the country, adding that the NDC was going to focus on domestic resource mobilisation, and transform the country to another level of development, and that the domestic resource mobilisation would be their priority.
The former Finance Minister said the ‘Ahotor Project’ he had initiated was a real deal for progress, jobs and to generate sustainable revenue and to bring on board micro-businesses.
He called on the delegates to vote for him to lead the party in the general elections adding that party members who are working in the various capacities will be remunerated.
According to him, women will receive a greater portion of the ‘Ahotor Project’. “We are going to make use of you to take a strong position in the party because of the benefits of women,’’ Dr. Duffour stated.
“We must make the party very attractive and make sure that the grassroots are well resourced,’’ he added. The General Secretary of the party, Mr. Fifi Kwetey, on his part, heaped praises on his former boss for the demonstration of maturity and sense of belongingness in his campaign.
At this point, Ghana needs a vibrant leader who is ready to take drastic measures for positive change. It doesn’t matter how the people will cry. But the hard truth is to fend for ourselves.
I will support a leader who is ready to do that
