A road accident on the Tema-Accra motorway has resulted in one death and several injuries.
A passenger bus, a Benz Sprinter with registration number GT 4867-13, veered into the median of the Highway at about 8:00am, Tuesday, killing the driver, whose name was given as Isaac Atsu Hanu, 42.
Godwin Sabbath, the mate, who could not recall the number of passengers onboard, told a couple of newsmen at the scene that the bus was travelling from Adjei Kojo to La Paz.
“I was busily collecting the fare when I suddenly heard the passengers screaming. The next thing I saw was our vehicle in the median of the Highway.
The driver’s head smashed into the vehicle and he sustained a deep cut above his left eye,” Godwin narrated.
A passenger onboard the vehicle recalled that the driver, in an attempt to swerve a pothole on the motorway, veered off into the median drain, hitting his head against the steering wheel.
The passenger said a fuel tanker and the Benz Sprinter, which was moving behind the former, were both dodging potholes on the motorway.
“Our driver suddenly veered off the road and landed in the median drain. The glass of the vehicle smashed, injuring several passengers. I sustained a minor cut on my right finger,” the passenger narrated.
