The Deputy Minister for Education, Gifty Twum Amafo, has urged teachers to see their students as their own children and make disciples out of them.
She said most students were being misled by what they saw on social media, which made them vulnerable and susceptive to all manner of false information and practices that tears apart the social fabric and norms of society.
According to her, whatever energy one put into the environment so shall he or she receive, as teaching goes beyond teacher-student interaction into a lasting bond between the students and the teachers.
The Deputy Minister was speaking at the launch of the 60th Anniversary of the Tarkwa Senior High School under the theme: “Achieving Excellence through Discipline for national development,” in Accra last week.
She said while the teachers sought to discipline students to conform to the rules and regulations of schools, it was important that they themselves set the pace of making discipline their hallmark.
The deputy minister reiterated that is for students and teachers and “it is paramount so far as academic excellence is concerned.”
As an old student herself, Gifty Twum Amafo also used the occasion to advise students against the destruction of school property, especially when they were about to complete.
The occasion was graced by old student unions, traditional authorities, and some key members of the government.
Some activities of the launch included out-dooring of the Anniversary Cloth and architecture impression of a new dining hall for the school.
